There's a chance, if we keep Brownell for one more year,

Feb 19, 2022, 5:24 PM

that every single thing he has demonstrated as a head coach, every pattern, tendency, and result ... everything we have come to know about his coaching ability, will change dramatically for the better. There's a chance that he will finally rise above the well entrenched, consistent pattern of mind-numbing mediocrity and mid-pack (or worse) finishes. There's a chance he could reel in a class full of 4 and 5 star recruits that can shoot and score and physically compete at a high level. Or, there's even a chance that he'll be able to take the always outmanned group he's got and somehow mold them into a cohesive team that can actually compete head-to-head with much more talented teams through sheer grit and a few brilliant coaching tweaks.

Or, if we keep Brownell and we get the very predictable, expected result, I guess all of us long suffering, loyal Clemson basketball fans can bend over and take another slamming up the wazoo.

Or, Clemson can FINALLY do what they should have done years ago, act like basketball matters even a little bit, and give the fans some glimmer of hope, and maybe even inject some real excitement into the program by making a coaching change.

It's simple - more of this? More of what we've seen for the last 12 years? Or do we want better? It's no more complicated than that.

We keep Brownell we are screaming to the world (if anybody outside us cares) that we don’t want competitive basketball. Please deal around Clemson in basketball. Or something like that.

Keep him to keep PJ, is my guess.

And what if PJ gets hurt most of next season..you never keep a coach just because he has a star coming back.

You look at where the overall program is. If you keep him for that then you are saying don't want to build a good program, but just hope to have a good team next season.

there is your wisdom --

Why is it more important than softball or intramural chess?

History is only prologue. Brad has been little more than mediocre his entire existence at Clemson. Next year will be more of the same. But with the folks that make decisions, that seems to be fine as long as football is good.

can head on down to the patch and wait expectantly for the Great Pumpkin if you want. Trust Lucy to hold the ball for your field goal attempt. I saw all I needed to see 3-4 seasons ago.

At least he broke the curse up in baby blue hell. For that reason alone I can wish for him to depart in peace. But he gotta go. It’s WAAAAAAYYY past time.
