Ring Ceremony - 36 yrs late !

Mar 4, 2021, 12:54 PM

So... "deserttigress21" is graduating this spring (on time, BS in microbiology). Needless to say, Dad is pretty proud ! Glad my desert girl wanted the adventure from out here - she, of course, has fallen in love with our favorite university. I purchased a class ring along with her, and we are going to do the ring ceremony together. The Alumni Assoc. was super cooperative and enthusiastic in helping me arrange this. As a bonus, the ceremony is on my birthday. Just wanted to share - looking forward to a special experience with my princess.

Do not feel bad. I was only 25 years late in graduating. My own fault, Should have graduated in '73. Too much emphasis down town. Came back after shipyard closed and made Dean's list and got off academic probation at the same time. Being married with two small kids will keep you focused.
Bought a ring also. Since then, my daughter graduated in 10 in Chemical Engineering. Thank God she is a whole lot smarter than her father.

When you and I were students...

Mar 4, 2021, 1:27 PM

there was no ring ceremony. When you got the call that your ring had come-in, you simply went to the book store or the alumni center to pick it up.

Count me in that alumni base.

I remember picking mine up at the bookstore.

Had to borrow the money from my sister to get mine. Picked it up at the bookstore and I’m so glad I did. A couple months ago I got to attend my oldest daughter’s ring ceremony. It’s a really cool deal and I’m glad they started it.

It's awesome that the Alumni Association is letting you do this and even more impressive in the climate we currently find ourselves. Enjoy this special time with your daughter as it will be a memory to last a lifetime for you and for her.

My youngest graduates next year. My wife and two other sons are grads.

I didn't want to be left out of the family ring picture!

I'll be at the Ring Ceremony since my son will be getting his this year.

Congrats! See you there.

That same ring today is about $1,500.

Congratulations on your upcoming special event. Happy for both of you!

Mar 4, 2021, 4:27 PM

Not just for you and your daughter doing it together, but also for you going back and getting your ring.

I am on my third. One was taken from a video game in Spartanburg back in '85. The second was left in St. Lucia. The third I still have even after finding it in the surf ten years ago after throwing a ball for my dog.

I'll get a fourth and so on if necessary.

Enjoy!

I am old enough to know what you meant by "taken from a video game" - the youngsters are probably confused ! Thanks for the post

Re: WOW!!! What a TREAT!!!

Mar 5, 2021, 3:30 AM

I’ve worn my Class of 1969 ring every day since graduation. There was no ceremony back then. I don’t remember where I picked it up.

It has gotten smoother every year and now has a classic look. Josten’s refurbished the stone once at no charge. They suggested that I insure it for $2500 when I shipped it to them.

I love my Clemson ring because of all of the wonderful experiences that it represents not only during my 4 years but the 52 years since. Also, I urge my fellow Tigers to come to their 50th reunion and join the Society of the Golden Tiger! It was a great experience!

Go Tigers!
