the new helmet rule: could it result in more injuries?

Sep 4, 2012, 10:57 AM

guys will be strapping their helmets on tighter, and defenders will be yanking harder on them to get them to come off.

I'm believing that was in AuBums game plan. Get Tajh off the field, and maybe get a turn over from Stout.

play will only get worse as the season goes on.and the games become more important

I agree. Obviously it was meant to give offensive players

Sep 4, 2012, 11:06 AM

an incentive to strap it on tighter but it seemed (and maybe I was just paying more attention to it) that defensive players were pulling at helmets more this weekend...

It certainly gives a LB a reason to tug at the helmet of a stud RB, etc.

Keep beating the drum on this one...

It needs to go and the only way that is going to happen is if people keep pointing out it major flaws and dangers.

This is one topic that I don't mind being Germans.

"Excuse me? I don't go down to your work and tell you how to flip the burger!"

Yes, they should have a rule to counter it.

Sep 4, 2012, 11:08 AM

Okay, if a players' helment comes off they have to sit out a play. But if a defender RIPS it off, they also have to sit out a play or get a personal foul penalty.....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There needs to be a review everytime a helmet comes off..

Sep 4, 2012, 11:11 AM

to determine the cause, if they aren't going to change the rule.

They didn't call a penalty once, which is going to get players hurt.

Tell you what will stop this stuff.

1. If helmet comes off, review the play to see if it is equipment failure or player tackling above shoulder pads.
2. If failure, player losing helemt goes to sideline for one play. If player loses helmet because opposing player is in contact with helmet, immediate 15 yard penalty and automatic first down. Player does not have to go to sideline. Opposing player is given warning that further occurrence will result in DQ.
3. Second occurrence will also be cause for unsportsmanlike warning to bench.

Very seldon do you see a helmet come off during a facemask penalty, but someone has to be pulling at the helmet edge to pull it off.

one of the most exciting plays OUT of the game--- the kickoff return! Why don't they just spot the ball at the 25 to start with?
