I love Dabo Swinney and our Tigers

Realistically though, how many more years will he stay until he says “enough is enough”. The game is changing away from his idea of what it should be and it is disintegrating rapidly. What will be the last straw?

My prediction is two to three more seasons. Enjoy them, because he will be gone before we know it I believe

I think he will probably say this is not for me within a few years and I don't blame him a bit.

I agree I applaud his approach but the game is changing so fast. His intentions are to do the best for the players but the game is different now. I am not sure he will be willing to change his philosophy

His intentions are great........his approach is detrimental to the program...

when 130 other FBS teams (not including army/navy/AF) can somewhat figure out how to use the NIL and/or portal to help better their roster and WE can't........that's problem.

I don't see Dabo just "walking away" from the game. If he walks away, he loses his platform to fight for his good intentions and beliefs of what CFB "should be" in his mind.........and my mind too........and I don't see him throwing that away.

Just my opinion but I think Dabo leaves Clemson for three reasons.

1. Retire completely from coaching - he is way too young to do this anytime soon.

2. Go be the head coach at Alabama. - Obviously he has ties there, if and when that job opens up for the second time after Saban I think we seriously considers this.

3. And this would be my guess, since the way college football is going, he could leave for the NFL. I don't particularly see Dabo doing well in the NFL, who knows I could be wrong, but I think he has already achieved great success in college, why not give the NFL a shot.

That being said, Dabo's contract is through the 2031 season. If I had to bet right now, I think he makes it through that time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I could never see Dabo's coaching style working in the NFL. Not from an X / O

standpoint, but just having to deal with a bunch of self entitled millionaires, I think his fuse would ignite and burn out REAL fast. He was made for what USED to be college football.

There will be some form of regulation brought about to reel in the college madness at some point, but Dabo may have already gotten sick enough of the chaos to get out by then.

Bama thinks they’re too good for Dabo now so even if he wanted it, he wouldn’t be offered the job.
Dabo loves educating young men, he’d be far more likely to go down to High School than up to the NFL
Option 4, that seems the most likely to me, is that he leaves to start a ministry or ramps up his charity. He has a passion for helping people and if he no longer feels that coaching is the best place for him to do that, I can see him making a change.

Dabo's and Bama's philosophy of NIL/portal use would not mix

if negotiations ever even got that far......Bama would demand he change his mindset and Dabo wouldn't do it.

I might be done with college football in a few years! It may sound old fashion but I like true amateur sports. Let the players be students and not train like pros. Accept the scholarship and Pell grant and play the game.
I don’t watch pro sports and college football is looking more pro everyday. There are a lot of things to do and spend money on in the fall. That’s all I’m saying.

Agree with you, but I don’t mind pro sports. They at least have some rules/structure compared to college football.

When Dabo gives up hope and quits college football I think most of us will be done with it as well.

He's only been her favorite basketball coach due to how much he has underachieved over the years and frustrated our fan base.

If Brad were to maintain us at a level ahead similar or close to last season she will be pumping him to leave for greener pastures.

You praise the Brownell and he has yet to win a championship. I’m really having a hard time understanding the way you think . However I’m pretty confident that every person you come in contact with has a hard time understanding your thought process .

we would still have a good football team - but mostly because it would help all of college football. (You can win without having to outbid other colleges for players.)

But - I don't think it will work. Then, Dabo will see his way won't work - and he'll leave on his own, rather than change his views on right/wrong.

I disagree. I think Dabo loves Coaching and loves mentoring young men even more (which is actually the most important part of coaching) and is also the piece that the majority of his fellow Coaches across the country are missing.

I think Dabo doesn’t care for college football’s current direction, but that doesn’t mean he’ll quit. Dabo is still young, he ain’t Saban. Quit and do what? Do nothing? Go on TV and whine and moan about things he no longer has any authority to influence? Go chase dollars? He doesn’t need more dollars and I don’t think that’s what motivates him anyway.

The football is great, the money is great, but the real juice is the influence he wields in the development of his young men. I don’t even think it would be a very hard decision for him.

I think in Dabo's mind he will try to go to 2030. I pick that number for a few reaons 1. he will be 60 years old in 2030 2. his contract will almost be up (2031) 3. he will have given the "new system" an honest try, 6 years 4. he will be 80+ million dollar richer.

Also for all the people who say Dabo just can't take it anymore it's too out of control it's the mini NFL etc.........you're not wrong....but so what....all professions are changing not just college football coaching.....if he really wants "purity" he won't find it in the NFL either with all of there forced social agendas. he can coach high school or pop warner if he wants purity......but that doesnt pay 12 million a year.

Having said all of that, my opinion on how long Dabo will stay is a bit doom and gloom........i don't see Dabo making it to 2030 but not because he retires from clemson.......i don't see ANY coach making it 2030, yes i think it's that serious of a time in the world. there is coming an event an a time where you won't just have games canceled for a year or so, then go right back to it. this entire monetary deck of cards is probably going to bust in a massive way in the next 6 years. there ain't gonna be no more 12 million coaches, and 400 million dollar pro athletes and 120 million dollar SEC/Big10 payents........all of that will be stopped in a single day never to return.

Changing/adapting is a part of life, but with all this constant change and update of the college football world it is certainly going away from anything Dabo Swinney believes in.

That said, he will either adapt and overcome because he loves the game or he will choose to not do that and move on. As much as I wish him to stay and persevere through this new landscape, cannot blame him for finishing out his contract and doing something else.

He has earned the right to do what he pleases, no harder worker in all of the college football world and a great leader of young men into this new world.
