Would you take 14-1 and a NC with the one loss to the coots?

Jun 15, 2014, 1:07 PM

After 5 I can't even answer that one with confidence. I guess I would take it but to listen to them it would be very bitter sweet.

Won't make it to playoffs losing to coots.

Your scenario is faulty

Could happen if the coots won the east and fsu and ga had a combined 3 losses.

yet for some reason they still exist.

There's something in these hills.

Yes but not anything less than a NC.

Jun 15, 2014, 1:11 PM

I would take beating the coots over an ACC championship BY FAR.

I would take beating the coots over a BCS bowl.

The thing that degrades our happiness the most as Clemson fans is the recent ownership that the coots have over us. I like handling the biggest problem first.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Heck yeah I'd take it but that'd be a hill to climb to get

Jun 15, 2014, 1:27 PM

into the playoffs ending the regular season with a loss but I suppose it could happen. Who cares what they would crow, WE WOULD BE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! That's the creme of the crop, the highest honor...I probably would be too ecstatic to give them one second of my attention.

They would probably be reduced to such a pathetic level that they'd claim themselves to be national champs since they beat us...lol!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can't take losing to those stupid ##### anymore.

Jun 15, 2014, 1:30 PM

So in that case, no.

I wouldn't want a lifetime "but we're the real national champs! We beat YOU!"

There's something in these hills.

but what if they lose like 3 in the year***

Jun 16, 2014, 6:59 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would take all that happened in the past 5 years, and

Jun 15, 2014, 1:33 PM

and the direction we now have, along with the 5 losses instead of the 5 years previous to Dabo and the wins against them.

That does not diminish the disappointment of the losses or the desire to beat them, but I am not going to elevate them to any status beyond what they are, which is not much.

My diploma says Clemson, theirs never will, so I want to beat them Ilke I want to beat FSU. No less. No more.

Re: Would you take 14-1 and a NC with the one loss to the coots?

Jun 15, 2014, 1:35 PM

In normal years yes, but after 5 losses in a row the answer is no. Our first priority this year should be beating SC. Four or five years from now, after we're back to dominating them again the way we're supposed to, my answer will likely be different.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No. Could not handle winning NC and losing to Coots

Jun 15, 2014, 1:48 PM

In same season.

Would not want to be champions of anything without being state champs. Would rather go 1-11 with lone win over Coots.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd be happy with nearly any scenario that featured a NC

Jun 15, 2014, 1:50 PM

but at the same time, I'd much rather us beat the coots on the way there...

Re: Would you take 14-1 and a NC with the one loss to the coots?

Jun 15, 2014, 2:09 PM

it is starting to be a very serious problem to lose to the coots. it hurts us in state with recruits, nationally with perception that they are a better program now, and finally as fans we need to get back to being dominant over them. as fans we need to start beating our in-state hated rival. it seems our players want to win so bad they play tight and play not to lose instead of just going out and playing to win. al of us, as Clemson fans, want more than anything for this streak to end, and if you say different you are not a true tiger fan. we play it off and say other games are just as important, but deep down we know that is a lie!

Jun 15, 2014, 2:57 PM

I'd even take a BCS bowl and a loss to SC.

Our season is not determined by SC. Yes, losing to them sucks and I am more than ready to beat them. But we have the ability to accomplish bigger and better things, while SC is not on that level. We will continue to define SC's mediocre program while we accomplish respectable national accomplishments. Enjoy the 5 wins Coots, it's the biggest accomplish you mediocre program has accomplished since winning the ACC in 69.

Jun 16, 2014, 8:38 AM

school for 63-17 and 8 out of 9, but i was still in the womb when we won our only national title. That's something i desperately want to see happen in my lifetime. Obviously it would be that much sweeter if we beat the coots AND won the title, but i could handle one more year of coot trolls to win a championship.

I think now with the playoff format and having to beat 2 of the top 4 teams in the country to win the title, we would kind of forget about the loss to the coots a little after winning those two games. Just assume we lost to the coots then beat two teams like Oregon/Stanford and Bama. Nobody is going to be calling us a fluke after that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If the coot perspective helps...

Jun 16, 2014, 9:29 AM

I wouldn't take it. From the coot side, I mean. I would rather you beat us this year than lose to us and win it all.
I don't always think the national respect for Clemson is as strong as Tigers think it is, but a Natty with a playoff would be off the charts respect and with Dabo's recruiting ability that would make my coot azzz pretty nervous, to be honest.

Jun 16, 2014, 9:43 AM [ in reply to If the coot perspective helps... ]

As it seems stupid to even think about turning down a national championship.

However, losing to your arch rival would take a lot of luster out of it. I mean how do you walk around proclaiming to be the best team in the country if you're not even the best team in your state?

But at the same time you get the trophy so that's the ultimate trump card.

Of course. What is this obsession with the Gamecocks?

Jun 16, 2014, 9:41 AM

They're an historically mediocre sports program that's had a run of good teams of late in two sports, one of which isn't watched by more than a couple million fans a year, and isn't taken that seriously by roughly half the country.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Of course. What is this obsession with the Gamecocks?

Jun 16, 2014, 9:45 AM

The obsession is that we've lost to them 5 years in a row, which is unprecedented in our program's history.

No one's focused on beating them one year. It's breaking this god-awful streak.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

more than likely that means

Jun 16, 2014, 11:46 AM

we beat them in the playoffs in a rematch--- so yes, I'd take it
