Amazing that when Dabo

hired BV no one really thought much of him, wasn’t a big deal hire. He had been basically dissed by BS and his brother. Dabo hired him and ,by BV’s own admission ,helped him reinvent himself as a coach. Basically gave Bates the biggest break of his career. I am really disturbed by the way they have basically disrespected CDS. Here is the point, Dabo made this team with some out of no where hires 10 years ago and 6 playoff appearances and 2 NC’s later everyone is having a melt down because he is following the SAME blueprint again. Call me a Dabo apologist but I believe in his process. Looking forward to the next 10 years!

Very well said but must disagree with the meltdown part. I've seen a lot of discussion and opinions, which is what this board is...

I'm sorry but I can't get behind the BV stabbed dabo in the back stuff....that's not the case, Dabo is proud of BV and is happy for him...Dabo understands what bv did for this program and bv understands what Dabo did for his career....it's a mutual respect and a respectful split.
If oklahoma and Clemson meet in next years cfb playoffs before the game their will be lots of smiles, hugs and pats on the back
These guys are friends

I agree but Chavis is another story. BV needs to muzzle him.

I thought it was a big deal when Dabo hired Venables.

At that time, Oklahoma was a better program than we were. To get their DC to come to Clemson was a big deal.
It was also the first really big hire Dabo made. Steele and Morris were big hires, but Venables was on another level.

All ANYONE said was "Why did we get a Big 12 coach? Nobody in the conference knows defense". It was a CO-DC that just got demoted so Brother Stoops could come back.

BV progressed to another level bc Dabo handed over the full length of the reigns and let him run the D the way he wanted to do it. Bob Stoopid never gave BV that much control over the defense, in fact, when Stoopid brother came back, he was head DC over BV!!!

I’m not sure Stoops bringing his brother back and demoting (if you want to call it that) BV to co-DC was really dissing him. During the period where Stoops and BV were co-DC’s at Oklahoma their D averaged as the 6th best scoring D in the country. During the 7 year period BV was the lone DC his Oklahoma D averaged the 29th scoring D, and was 58, 7, 33, and 31 the last four years. That’s not so great at Oklahoma even though they were in the pass happy Big 12. In my mind, Stoops was justified in wanting to reunite the dc team. Their D was much better when his bro and BV were working together. There’s a great summary on all of this. Just google shakin the southland brent venables defense at OU. BV was definitely wounded when Dabo took a chance on him. I think this is why he mentioned that Dabo took a chance on him when he had very little confidence in himself.

A little uncanny how coaches seem to thrive and hit their stride under Dabo. Like so many players also over the years.
I've been surprised by the volume of meltdowns over a single less than stellar season, and next the matriculation of assistant coaches up and elsewhere up the food chain, as should be expected. That is, until I put the reactionary element of folks into perspective with how dialogue is transpiring all around us today, how we are all becoming inured to fury talk with less face to face and more screen to screen.
Folks around here were so done with Steele at the time that Jimmy Greenbeans could have been named new DC and we'd have been okay with it at the time. BV was definitely a step up, though. Glad he could shine here like he did.
Go Tigers.

I had a few ou fans told me when we hired him how bad V was and that he was not going to upgrade our defense. They couldn't wait to get rid of him.
Now it seems some of them have changed their tune...for now.
