will get you SOOOOOOO much higher than most regular weed, but it also only lasts for like 45 minutes. It's best if you line your Jays with it.

[ in reply to That looks more like stew. Proper hash is eaten over rice... ] |
|
"Hash is popular in these parts as a side dish at every barbecue parlor, but here it is a standalone. In fact, it is the house specialty, a thick stew of shredded pork and beef and temperate spices with a vivid mustard twang. One serving, which gets you plenty of change from a $5 bill, doesn’t look huge; but it is dense, meaty fare; and a little goes a long way. It is served with a hot dog bun, which is a welcome fluffy respite from forkfuls of the protein-intense hash."

but that is a long drive.
Let me know if you find any in Anderson area. I haven't found too much good BBQ here, at least not like some of the places in the CSRA.

I have driven to Dukes in Orangeburg

from Clemson before. JUST for a plate of hash and rice (and a couple quarts for later use). Drove straight back home. Sure did. About 175 miles each way. WORTH IT.
I've driven just about that far for boiled peanuts long ago when I lived in a boiled peanut-free state.
I think those are the only two foods I will travel distances for. It's just something Yankees don't understand.

but like anything, it's not exactly like it is at the restaurant.
As explained in your link, it's basically pork butt, BBQ sauce, potatoes, onions, spices, and water.
Dukes BBQ Style Hash
yield: 5 QUARTS prep time: 15 MINUTES cook time: 1 HOUR total time: 1 HOUR 15 MINUTES An authentic SC BBQ hash recipe at its best, Dukes Barbecue style. Potatoes, onions, and pork are about all you need!
Ingredients 5 lbs Boston butt, roasted or cooked in a crockpot until tender and falling off the bone 2 lbs potatoes, chopped 2 lbs onions, chopped 1 cup mustard-based BBQ sauce 1 cup ketchup 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons black pepper, ground 1 tsp hot sauce, Texas Pete or to taste 8 tbsp butter, (one stick)
Instructions Sauté onions with potatoes in a little oil until onions are tender. Stir in black pepper. Pull pork and add to potatoes and onions. Fill with water until covered. Cook until potatoes are done. Blend mixture slightly in a blender and return to pot. Add BBQ sauce, ketchup, hot sauce to taste and vinegar. Simmer until it's the consistency of thick soup. Turn off heat and add butter. Serve over white rice.

I don't really know what is best in Upstate

None of them really stand out to me, but I wouldn't consider them bad.
What does stand out is:
1) Sweatman's in Holly Hill (been 6 yrs though) 2) Lone Star BBQ in Santee (been at least 3 yrs)
Those 2 right there now, ain't never had better.

Henry's is that 90% of their sides come pre-made from Sysco.
