The possibility of snow always brings back so many memories

of growing up in Greenville in the 60s. We prayed for snow, of course. But gottdamm that "I-85 corridor". It always bit us in the azzz. Snow and endless fun north of 85, back to the salt mines south of 85. We get nothing or a dusting, 30 minutes north it's a winter f$%king wonderland. How many times we all stayed up to catch the 11:00 News, with Monty Dupuy and his big hair doing the WFBC weather.
A gazillion upstate kids with their fingers crossed. We only got 2 channels clear, WFBC & WSPA... but we twisted the rabbit ears and adjusted the tinfoil to pick up WLOS in Asheville. This was like our dream... for damm sho dey gettin snow. I learned to hate those kids in Transylvania & Polk counties, the summamabeeches. I can still see the blurbs on the TV screen with their school closures...
Funny the things you remember.

morning they had the Mister Bill Show, and he always played the Three Stooges. That's what you watched while eating breakfast before school. The reception was horrible, but hey... it's the Stooges, man.

It's not enough to just pray.

They'll need to sacrifice a polar bear on a stone altar in the front yard. I'm shocked you haven't taught them that yet.

for snow when I lived in the Carolinas.
Growing up in Greenville, there were times that Atlanta got dumped on and it petered out by the time it got to Greenville, and God knows how many times I was looking out the window at drizzle getting ready for school while they were building snowmen in Asheville. Just year after year of snow forecasts only to be dashed the next day when nothing came of it.
When I moved to Charlotte, it seemed like I-40 was the magic dividing line. We'd get nothing while Raleigh got epic amounts of snow.
I like it here in TN. We get a couple decent ones a year---enough to go sledding for a day or two, and that 's about it. perfect amount of snow.

And praying Spartanburg County schools would close.
Nowadays, I don't care to ever see another snowflake again.
EDIT: My favorite one will always be the 1988 storm. I was 10. The sledding and the snowballs fights and pretty much everything was perfect.

While it's in the air. Once it's on the ground, it just creates work and mess for me.

parents would still have to go to work, so we all would sleighride with our girlfriends, go back, makeout sessions, pizza making, finger banging, movie watching, etc.. My GF was so scared of getting pregnant, I never really hit a homerun on snow days, but when I went back to school, my finger was constantly in my nose.
As I got older and had a truck and such, we were out in that hauling ### down an empty I-40 to Barley's to hangout or go and grab beer from that 1 gas station that didnt card.
Good times I tell ya.
