Love me some McLean. I've got several LPs I listen to regularly.

However, I think your post has more in common with "Dredel" than "American Pie".

While Tiger basketball disappointment is both legendary and historic, your interpretation of history is not divine. Instead, you remind me of Rachel Maddow "interpreting" current events, charlatan preachers omitting Scripture verses in a passage that contradict them, or ancient Egyptian magi using selected stars in the night sky to draw pictures of the gods they thought up.

Feel free to express your disappointment in whatever method floats your boat. Generally, unless you're simply a fascist at heart, great disappointment must find an outlet. I get that.

But please don't ever be so mind-numbed and un-American as to think that no one of good faith and intellect could possibly disagree with you. The day you have the capability of thinking for me, one of us isn't necessary. And my wife still prefers me, so I hope you can find meaning in life somewhere else.

Yeah, there’s always the smart guy to deal with – the guy who thinks he’s smarter than the rest of the room, even in the expanse of the Internet. Problem is, that even those guys are never as prescient as they think they are, and you my Italian-speaking friend made your share of boo-boos.

Trying to announce your intellectual prowess was but the first. Getting into such a hurry that you didn’t read clearly, well that was the biggest.

As opposed your suggestion otherwise, I was very clear (specific even) in not “interpreting” McLean. I did say that his song “has been interpreted”. But that wasn’t me doing that. Indeed, in referring to myself ("this author"), I used the very particular term “using his (McLean’s) words as allusion”. Alluding to something is not in any way “interpreting”. Allusion is an inference, an innuendo, a passing reference, that’s all, and not a search for global meaning.

No, in presenting the song along with my series, I just thought that there was some clear phraseology in “American Pie” that “alluded” to Clemson and its particular physical circumstances.

Things like “levee”, which clearly references Clemson’s dikes on Lake Hartwell. “Good ol’ boys” could be used to describe a significant portion of Clemson’s male population, and without likely any argument from them. “Dance” is surely a fit allusion to March Madness, or alternatively, as it is known, “the Big Dance”. “February made me shiver” harkens to the ACC schedule we play each year in that month. “Dancin’ in the gym” could be any basketball game, not just the NCAAT. “For ten years we’ve been on our own” literally spells out the calendar time from Brownell’s failure against Pitt in March 2014. “No verdict was returned” laughingly played to the Faithful’s insistence that the referees screwed up the call on Pitt’s 2014 buzzer beater. “Jack flash sat on a candle stick” likened to jumping Jaron Blossomgame. “Fire is the Devil’s only friend” was the insistence of Brownell to play with fire by throwing a 4-foot pass, instead of a 74-foot pass. “The sacred store” – oh, that’s either Knickerbocker’s or laughably, Judge Keller, the store.

And of course, The “Jester” – how could that not be TigerNet’s own “Judge Keller”?

But these aren’t interpretations or metaphorical meanings, they’re simply explicit comparison between the song’s phraseology and something in the physical Clemson that generally matches. Analogies, at best; but not metaphors, as there’s simply no coherent meaning associated with any of these terms. That’s all.

So, Rachel Maddow? Charlatan preachers? No, my renderings are explicit enough to be considered relatively obvious, and thus more like synonyms then interpretations. It’s certainly not the ravings of feminist idiots and/or pseudo-spiritual megalomaniacs, no matter how much you might want it to be. I drew a two-dimensional comparison; you put me on the FBI’s Most Wanted. That very well might be cause for a re-think, don't ya think?

Thirdly, you suggested that my series was to express “disappointment”. Hardly. Unhappiness ten years post facto is for those who cannot ground themselves, their opinions, and their emotions in reality. And I spent an exceedingly long time in the first half of the series (Parts 3 through 5) developing the overtly statistical basis for people to ignore their opinions and emotions, and instead accept what was fact. Brownell lost an NCAAT bid for the school and team in 2014 because he screwed up a situation that was literally 99.95% in his favor. That’s statistical fact. My aim then wasn’t to emote, not at all; but was instead simply to educate.

Fourthly, please don’t think that I was trying “to think” for you. No, education is first only the transfer of information, as much factual as possible. And that is what I have done – provided information that you most assuredly didn’t already have. To wit: an 11—7 ACC record meant a sure-fire 2014 NCAAT bid (without need of SOS, RPI, point margins, et al, details), and with a 5-point lead at 6 seconds left against Pitt, Brownell had at least a 99% chance of winning unless he somehow screwed it up. These are statistical facts within the margin described. I don’t want nor need you to think. Indeed, these are not things that even I "thought up”. Facts are only what they are.

And finally, I then highlighted the fact that Brownell’s own coaching move at the end of the 2023 Pitt game showed that he indeed acknowledged his failure back in 2014. He chose to throw the ball past half-court to ice the 2023 game, and not repeat his previous 4-foot mistake. That’s nice of him, just ten years too late. It’s also too bad that he has never owned up to that failure publicly. These are just more salient facts that the pro-Brownell faction cannot escape. And again, on these points, no one’s “thoughts” are warranted.

After that though, it’s up to you. If you want to ignore facts like many do - Clemson Mountaineers, or Judge Keller, or Valley Boy – then be my guest. Just again: know that you are arguing against facts, not opinions. And no matter how smart you or your wife may think you are, you’re not smarter than what has been evidenced.

Clemson fan that the Brownell Bros., from top to bottom, are little more than 4th grade whiny boys, unable to stand up to the rigor of logic in the light of day, capable only of hiding behind your Momma's skirts, slipping out barely long enough to make your mark as a TD instead of a valid argument.

The laughable thing is that you act exactly as you have been led; you emulate your leaders, the petulant, two-faced "Judge Keller", and the multi-millionaire High School Coach Brownell, himself.

Come out, come out wherever you are, little boys. Try to be an adult. Try to make an argument of facts, not excuses. Try to make real assessments, not "hopes, dreams, and fantasies".

Try to come to grips with the reality that you've made the NCAAT only twice in the last dozen years - seven (7) times less than San Diego State.
