Long-term problems, Clemson football will suffer

Apr 12, 2016, 10:38 PM

First, games will seem the same at first, but Clemson will have some down years. During those years Students will be the first ones to stop buying tickets. Recruits won't feel like Death Valley is as special, and that will result in increased difficulty getting the players we want.

Secondly, many students don't go to Clemson as diehard Clemson football fans (It's true. There are a lot of out of state kids). They become huge fans once they go and have that great experience. They will never get that experience if they have to pay $225, because they are out of state kids without huge Clemson allegiances. Why would they pay for something they grew up not caring much about?

Both these thinks will lead to a watered down student section and a cycle of poorer atmosphere. leading to poorer football, leading to poorer atmosphere, etc. I know that seems extreme. You want the kids that will camp out for tickets the week before, because you know they will be at the game with energy. Not kids that paid at the beginning of the year who may not show up.

I am from South Carolina, but didn't become fanatical for Clemson Football after getting free tickets, attending all the games, camping out, etc.

That being said, the idea makes sense in theory. I just think the actual results will be very negative in the future.

I'm not writing that like it's the death of Clemson football. I'm just expressing that it will have some negative impact. Do you think it's a good thing?

Short-term problem:

I actually wasted time reading that.

Long-term problem: you're a moran.

Help me out then

Apr 12, 2016, 10:57 PM

That's fine. Do you think all of that is wrong? Will there be no negative impact?

I have to ask since I'm a moron.

When we consistently lose, student turnout isn't as high.

Apr 12, 2016, 11:28 PM

When we consistently lose, recruits won't be as interested in coming to Clemson.

Charge the students or not, those results will be the same.

The average college student has enough bills to deal with and that's unfortunate. That said, I would have GLADLY paid $225 to see this era of Clemson Football and not the Tommy Bowden garbage I was given. At minimum wage you're looking at a week's worth of wages for a college kid during his summer break? Oh, my!

And standing on the hill didn't bother me. I loved it! If that's what I had to do to get a free or reduced ticket, so be it.

I call you a moran in a joking manner. Nothing against ya! You're entitled to your opinion. Just didn't see the need for such a negative spin on the new ticket policy for students.

Well that's why I said they will be long-term problems. Students will leave, maybe faster than usual, during down years. Problem is I absolutely believe they won't come back as quickly now.

Clemson is a special place. Let's not do something , because everyone else is doing it. I believe we can make 1.8 million dollars in a better way.

Now I can agree with your closing statement.

+1 to you.

I think its a possibility, but not likely the severe picture

Apr 12, 2016, 11:21 PM

You've painted. People will still want to come.

Yeah. It came across too severe

Apr 12, 2016, 11:52 PM

I stand by that it will probably have some negative impact in those areas though. We can't just say "everyone else is doing it. We should too." Blending in with everyone else is not what makes Clemson special.

Just wait til students graduate & learn what it costs to

Apr 12, 2016, 11:31 PM

attend football games! $225 doesn't even cover one night in a hotel! Add in a few thousand to IPTAY for starters………..
