Adult Social Clubs

I like these. Folks with a shared interest get together.
(expect many with nothing original to now post a quote from Groucho Marx)
I like these clubs, but just never had time or interest for most.
This is on my mind as I just read a slam on Tnet as to the VFW.
Most groups have died out or are dying out as the world has changed from fellowship to other things.
The local American Legion went all out to make my life better as a youth. I owe them a lot. These were great men from WW11. They stood up for us all when called on, and later just for kids like me. I have never joined, how sad is that, what does it say about me?
One night in a hippie bar on Central Ave in Charlotte, when about 22, a civilian came in I had seen around. He invited me up the road to the VFW.
It was nice. Liquor was served at the bar. That was not legal, but it was the VFW, so !!
The barmaid said my first drink and one kiss was free. She was older but nice, made me feel like I would be OK there. My friend had a locker with a bottle of Pinch in it. It was a fun night.
A search was done and apparently I qualified to be a member. I joined, but never found time to return as the bar down the street was full of cute hippie girls.
No matter, anyone slamming the VFW or the American Legion needs to be called out.
