each contestant wears an outfit that exemplifies their state? Like, Miss Nevada wore a skimpy outfit with a five card fan behind it.
Miss South Carolina wore something that, well, all I can say is, we South Carolinians are evidently all purple Teletubbies.

I honestly thought Kansas would be dressed like a sunflower. As far as South Carolina, I see the indigo could be a harkening back to the slave days of growing cash crops, but the rest escapes me unless it has something to do with Mardi Gras and voodoo.

Miss USA contestants are pretty much professional models anyway aren't they? Unlike Miss America which is a scholarship pageant with contestants from a state pageant held with local ladies from around the state.
