Wow...I just watched a spcial on Pistol Pete....some guy

went back and Charted every shot Pete took the three years that he lead the NCAA in scoring with 44 points per game. According to this guy, The Pistol would have averaged 13 three pointers per game and would have averaged 57 points per game....A kid right here from D.W. Daniel....

It seemed as if, once he crossed the midline he was in shooting range. Another one taken too soon.

I commented on here before about him. When his Dad was a coach at Clemson, he was just a kid. Everywhere you saw him, he was dribbling a basketball. You never saw him without that ball. His dribbling skills were like no other.

I watched him play at DHS against Pendleton when Pete was in the 8th grade. Dr. Jim Sutherland was a 6'5" HS All American guard on that Daniel team and they were a terrific combination, even though Pete was so little and tiny. I bet he didn't weigh much over 100 lbs. and was only about 5'8" tall and had to shoot the ball with 2 hands like a set shot he was so weak. I think he scored 25 points that night and dazzled the crowd with his ball handling. He was a phenom, even with that tiny body, at age 13. Pete was, and still is, One of my heroes. He definitely found his passion early in life and only found his true calling of Christian Ministry late, right before his untimely death. Probably the greatest basketball player who ever lived!

Pete would have had to attempted approximately 35 threes per game! I don't think Pete averaged shooting 35 shots from 3 pt range!

His college stats were also for only 3 years because freshmen were not allowed to play varsity back then. And he is still the all time D1 scoring leader.
I played A LOT of basketball between the ages of 12 and 45. Pistol Pete was the biggest reason I developed an interest in the game. I did everything I could to model my game after his.

Pistol Pete was amazing. Just think about the course of Clemson basketball had we not let him get away.

I played pick-up basketball with Pete at the Clemson YMCA at about 11:30 P.M. on a Friday night sometime in the late 60's - that year his Dad coached Clemson for one year. Seems hew could not get enough BB after playing a HS game at Daniel - they were not supposed to play anywhere else while on that team - but he certainly did - Will not ever forget that!!!!
