I was looking at flights into LaGuardia to go to the game and it's still a 4+ hour drive to get from there to the stadium. I don't know why anyone would want to live in that type of traffic all the time.

It’s a 250 mile drive from LGA to Syracuse.

Miles from clemson. SYRACUSE should have built their school closer to the airport. Dummies...
That is almost as stupid as having a stadium with no air conditioning named after an air conditioner company .

But if they were that close to GSP, wouldn't they need air conditioning in their dome? That could be a lot of money!

Why would you pay $570 to drive from Charlotte to Buffalo?
Also, I highly doubt that driving that far is quicker than flying to New York and driving over to the stadium.
On second thought, with New York traffic, you may be right.

True Story : I got off the tug at a shipyard on Staten Island ( The Forgotten Burough ) and had a rental car , and 3.5 hrs til my flight home ... from Laguardia . That's about 18 miles by highway if my memory serves. I made it to my flight after the doors closed but luckily and without having to do so the attendant had mercy on me and let me on anyway after hailing the crew . 3.5 hrs . Now , 45 minutes of that was security and returning the rental car ... but yes ...NYC traffic at the wrong time of the day or year is about the worst you could ever imagine in the country .

When I worked in DC... the commute wasn't bad since I lived in the district. VA/MD is where the traffic was really bad.
When I quasi-left DC, I commuted from Richmond to DC to finish out my contract. I would leave DC at 10pm and I would not get into Richmond until 1:30am to 3am.
NYC isn't too bad as my only real issue was a trip from NC to CT. A overturned fuel truck on GW bridge added 7.5 hours to that trip... but I was only 0.1 beind when the accident happened so it was 100% stuck at that time.

Several years ago, I left a mediation at 5:30 from an office on Peachtree headed north to Greenville. With the traffic and all the accidents, it took me nearly three hours just to get to the Buford/Mall of Georgia Exit which is only about 35 miles.

Its perplexing how Atlanta gets this reputation for horrible traffic when it’s really no worse than most other major metro areas. I’ve lived in Atlanta for 15 years now and can say I’ve had worse or comparable experiences in Chicago, New York, Boston, DC, Miami, Houston, LA, and San Francisco.
The thing with Atlanta is that it’s the only major metro area of its kind for a good long radius. Yes, the light rail doesn’t have much of a network and a city built for cars has sprawled and overgrown that capacity, but it’s not like Atlanta is some kind of traffic anomaly.

I don’t see commute times as the best measurement. Living in the suburbs and commuting to town is a personal decision. An index of traffic congestion would account for several factors that any visitor would experience, not just a commuter. Here’s a study that ranks Atlanta 11th. I agree, it’s bad here - but it’s far from the worst.

Yea, I feel your pain. I booked flights from Charlotte to Charleston last week to drive to Clemson for the game. Way easier than driving from out of state, but it was still a 4+ hour drive from there.
South Carolina is ridiculous. I don't know why anyone would want to live in that type of traffic all the time.

Though I now live in Richmond, I grew up in Upstate NY.
Here are your best options to get to Syracuse
Fly into Buffalo and take thruway to Syracuse, which is just under a couple hour.
Fly into Syracuse directly on American Airlines via Charlotte., which may be more pricey than Buffalo
Fly to Elimira, NY via Delta and drive 2 ½ hours north to Syracuse.
Finally you can fly into Wilkes Barre , PA and take I 81N to I88 N to Syracuse 3 hours
NY city is 4.25 hrs or more to Syracuse depending on how quickly you can get out of the metro NY area

most people think that ny city and long island comprise ny.the state is fairly large area-wise.trust me.those of us in the up-state consider any area away from the city and island as upstate.the great majority of us would like to saw nyc and li off and float them out into the atlantic.good riddance!syracuse(and i am certainly no fan in any way) is definitely upstate, just southeast of lake ontario.where i live is just 10 miles west of vermont in the REAL upstate.you'd be pleasantly surprised at the geography of our area.lots of rolling hills and farmland, not unlike the area around CU.green, berkshire, and adirondack mountains close by.many opportunites for outdoor recreation.nyc and li are a universe apart from our area.

just colloquial.in mass. which is close by I-90 is the turnpike.the ny I-87 is the northway.ps:not all new yorkers are bad-the people in our area are quite a lot like south carolinians-very common sensical, good people.also,no one wants our Tigers to beat syracuse more than i do.not that many of their fans around here, but enough to give me grief.

Fly into Buffalo! Rent a car there, just stay in city or in hotel on interstate. I was just up there and stayed in Best Western(points) in Niagara Falls and in Hammondsport.

Flying to Allentown, Newark, Hartford, and Philly are all a shorter drive than LGA!
You could also look at Rochester

FLYING is ridiculous

Why would anyone fly to a conference game? Siriusly. I live in Charlotte. It's only 11 hours from my house to the Dome. That's a pretty easy drive. Leave the house at 4 a.m. (Hey, we're a land grant school. Farmers get up early.) Listen to ball games on the radio the last 5 hours of the trip. Arrive in Syracuse at 4 p.m. at the worst. Put up the big flag. Open the Yeti, grab the ice cold beers and relax. Visit with the 'Cuse fans who are tailgating, maybe get an invite to eat with'em. If not run into Fagans and grab a light dinner, then go into the game about 7 pm.
See the big victory. Get jacked up over the win. Get in the car, drive a couple of hours down the interstate listening to the scores, late games from the worst coast, rehash the stadium, the fans, the game, and when you get tired, stop for the night.
Catch 6 hours of sleep since you're lazy and it's a skip church Sunday. Meander down the road and make it home easily by dinner time. Don'tcha love a lazy Sunday afternoon drive down 81, through the Shenandoah Valley?
Fly? Are you kidding? Get there an hour and hang around killing time. Find out the plane is leaving a hour late. FINALLY it takes off and you are packed in with the other sardines for the 2 hour flight to SYR. Unload. Wait 45 minutes for a rental car. Drive to your hotel and find you can't check in until 3 pm. Crap, you'll get to the tailgate AFTER I will and we've both got a day invested in the trip.
And if I want to see Niagra, Cooperstown, drive a lap at Watkins Glen and make a mini-vacation, well that's easy too.
Fly? Next think I'll hear someone is flying to Louisville or Pittsburgh or Tallahassee. You fly guys are not road trippin'. You're on a business trip.

DRIVING is ridiculous

Why would anyone drive to New York? Siriusly. I live in Charlotte. It's only 15 minutes from my house to the airport. That's a pretty easy drive. Valet the car by the front door of the airport, go through the security pre-check station where there is no wait and I don't even have to take my shoes off, hit the American lounge and have a couple of drinks, board the plane where they'll pour me a glass of bourbon before takeoff. Have another drink or two in the air and relax until they bring the fancy snack basket around and land on time in NY.
Stay at a hotel Friday night and check out the city some. Get up for a nice lazy morning, grab a nice breakfast and head off to tailgate. After the game I'll go back to the hotel and have a good night's sleep, wake up Sunday morning and fly back. All without getting a rental car and I'll be home in time to watch football all Sunday afternoon.

take a trip around the Adirondacks. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip there several years ago. Beautiful campus. Great fishing at Pulaski (combat style) and fantastic small mouth bass fishing on Ontario. I wanted to go again this year but couldn't make it. Pretty country and nice people. Either you guys are just trolling, or just don't know how to read a map.

Well I hope ya'll realize if you fly into NY from the states of South Carolina,Georgia and Alabama you have to submit to a blood test. They will be looking for evidence of inbreeding and if found, you will be locked up for 72 hours to make sure you are not rabid.
But don't worry as they do find a few hillbillies that live up here that has failed that test too.
