Pitiful. I feel less good about this win than any I can remember, because we still make way too many mistakes, have zero killer instinct, give up too many big plays on defense, and have zero offensive consistency, and we can't put 4 quarters of decent football together to save our lives.

I guess what you gotta keep in mind is that we’re not the caliber team we’ve been. We’re not loaded with NFL talent all over the field at nearly every position, right now. And We’ve had as much shakeup on the coaching staff as any team……
and we’re 9-1. Be grateful.

I explained it several times, but I'll do it again. I started that post when we gave up that garbage TD at the very end. That WAS an embarrassment - it was a pitiful effort, no matter what the score or circumstances were. I stand by that 100% - and THAT was what I was talking about. That was also the end of the game, and I expressed other thoughts about the game as a whole, which I stand by as well. The game as a whole was ugly and frustrating for the most part, but was not embarrasing. As I said, we had a handful of big, outstanding plays which displayed tremndous individual efforts, but there was a whole lot of ugly, frustrating football in between.
So, the win was not embarrasing, but that particular play was, without question. I'm happy that we bounced back and got the win, accomplishing the ultimate goal. I'll take it. However, it would be dishonest or delusional to pretend that a lot of the problems that have plagued us all year, and killed us against ND, were not still very obvious and problematic against Louisville, and that tempers my enthusiasm for this win.

DJ played well (relatively), and we ran the ball all over them.
If you're looking for perfection you're rooting for the wrong team.

be okay with poor effort and execution, no matter the situaton. Not looking for perfection at all, just good effort and not being totally lost, which is exactly what happened on that last play. It's not acceptable on any level, even on the last play when the game is in hand. I mean, we still had starters in the game, and were really trying to stop them from scoring, and we failed in an ugly, embarrassing way.
DJ Played better, for sure, and our running game was good for the most part, yet we had a lot of misfires and inconsistentsies on offense, exactly as we've had all year, and exactly as we had against ND. What was different this week, as I see it, was that we were able to step up and beat LOU at the point of attack more often than not (as we should). Still, our playcalling was mystifying at times, and we had fumbles and the same old misfires and inconsistencies on offense. We were saved by a handful of outstanding indiviual plays and efforts.
On defense, we gave up 400 yds of total ofense, including rushes of 44, 27, 26, 18, and 16 yds, and passes of 54, 31, 24, and 16 yds. Good enough, but not great.
Look, we won, and I'm happy for the win. I know it's been ridiculed, but it's very very true: Winning is hard. We get everybody's best shot, and everybody we play is talented enough and capable of beating us if we don't play well enough. I get that, so I'm grateful for any win. This week, we showed some improvement over last week, took a step forward, and got that hard earned win. That's the good. We also still battled all of the same problems that we've battled all year, to some extent. It seems that we just can't get some things corrected and put 4 solid quaarters together. While we can beat most teams we face while battling those problems, if we don't get them fixed, we will get killed when the level of competition goes up. While we still have a great record, that's the concern for me, going forward. I don't expect perfection by any means, but our inability to show significant improvement is disappointing for me.

poorly we played for much of the game, it's dishonest to pretend like we still don't have serious issues that will get us killed when we aren't playing inferior competition. When I started my original post, LOU had just scored that TD at the end, and that's what I was referring to as an embarrassment, and I stand by that.

Only 2 main issues for me personally would be turnovers and then why bring Cade in for a few plays. Dang what purpose did that serve. Put him in at that point in the game leave him in.

Watched every minute of the game, and we kicked their butt! What are you "embarrassed" about???
For a dude going by the handle, SmilingTiger, you sure do seem to complain a lot. I logged in and was going to make a joke post, "well what are we b!tching about today?", and turns out some of you sure enough are unhappy about this, that, or the other.
Look man, at this point the team will not be looking like 2018. This is the team we have, and we're 9-1 and in the top 10!! A 31-16 win is awesome.
I'm not fargin embarrassed by anything I saw today. I just don't get some of you dudes.
