Not saying these guys don't deserve this, not saying that...

Feb 8, 2019, 11:05 AM

at all, it just amazes me the money in major college football now. Talk about big business!

Am glad to see the BOT stepping up and doing what is necessary to keep Tony and Jeff and everyone else at Clemson. We all know the lack of coaching turnover is a major reason for our success.

By the way, makes me wonder if Chad Morris regrets leaving.

We wouldn’t be where we are if Chad was still at Clemson, imo

Feb 8, 2019, 11:13 AM

We wouldn’t have changed our offensive philosophy if it wasn’t for Chad. Those guys learned quite a bit from him and incorporated their philosophy on this offense and No, I’m not Chad.

Re: Not saying these guys don't deserve this, not saying that...

Feb 8, 2019, 12:13 PM

Not sure that’s entirely true about changing the offensive schemes if not for Chad. Dabo knew he wanted a high flying offense and if Chad didn’t agree to come here, he would have went out and got someone similar with a similar offense.

Btw I’m not saying I’m not appreciative of what CM accomplished here at all. Sometimes his offenses were the most fun to watch ever, but at other times head scratching.

That's a good point - and I remember people being.........

afraid of the 2-OCs concept and that they thought it would backfire, etc.

I am also under the belief we would not be where we are now if Chad had stayed. While I very much appreciate where he got us I feel like his offense is not built to win a title, it is built to help build a program from average to very good but to be national champions we had to stop all the gadget plays and slow misdirection and move towards, hike it and throw it to your best players. Or hike it and run it where you want to with less misdirection and more traditional run plays (maybe run from a non-traditional formation like the pistol)

Now this is not to say we don't use some of the concepts that Chad got us started with but how much of is direct influence did you see in the championship game? 1 or 2 jet sweeps, not much of the wr's running behind the run play to pretend they were getting the ball? No wr's throws like when Sammy threw that pick against Carolina?

Anyway, I will always appreciate what Chad did for Clemson but am so glad that Tony and Jeff Scott are running our offense now. Honestly I am just so happy our staff hasn't been poached yet. I am still in shock that Venables, Scott, Elliot, and even Streeter aren't head coaches yet.

Feb 8, 2019, 1:05 PM [ in reply to Not saying these guys don't deserve this, not saying that... ]

I sure hope that he does, and I don't say that in trying to be vindictive toward The Chad, I'm saying that bc for the many years I have been a Clemson fan, I have never seen an assistant coach that tried as hard as Chad Morris to find another coaching job as fast and as hard as he did. My personal opinion is that The Chad move way to fast in becoming a Head Coach in college FB with being so fresh out of the HS ranks, and my opinion is that he didn't give himself enough time working under one of the most brilliant junior head coaches in all of college FB, and I think that was a mistake that The Chad made against his own success as a head college FB coach. I think that Chad has dug a hole in front of the steps he's taken to become a successful Head Coach in the ranks of college FB. His record after leaving the guidance of Dabo is 16–31, he won't be a college HC to long if he doesn't drastically turn that record around. Dabo wouldn't have remained a HC at Clemson with that type of win loss record!!!

Did you know that the Chad's recruiting class at Arky was ranked about #13 at one time .

Don't go feeling too sorry for The Chad cause he's right at home and doing pretty well .

Your stats and records leave out too much to remark on. So many factors that affect a program for a head coach you leave out. Suffice it to say your post is...… misguided. LOL

Chad is making $3.5 mil a year at Arkansas

So I highly doubt he regrets leaving. Now does he miss Clemson sometimes? Absolutely.

I believe that both those raises were deserving. When the SEC people talk about SEC players, they are saying that they are bigger, taller, stronger and faster, and if that is possibly true, we can say that Batson is creating SEC players in a Clemson ACC player weight room. He must be bc our Clemson ACC players were taking it to the Best Bama SEC players that is out there in the college SEC recruiting world!!!

If they need to pay BV more, I'd be willing to make a contribution. He is a big reason we are playing for (and winning) national championships.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Worth every cent. Tragic that the previous "powers that be"

Feb 9, 2019, 10:25 AM

I agree that BV is a big reason we are winning at the level that we are winning, I just don't agree that he is the biggest reason. Talent that we are bringing into Clemson is by far the biggest reason, also the fact that Tony and Jeff are better play callers with a QB that can complete passes down field. Our offense was really balanced last season, if not better than than it was with DW4 as QB, and that is mostly bc of our stable of RBs with ETN being the leader in that pack. We are as Elite as any team in college FB, and that is bc of the accumulation of what we have with all complimenting each other as a total package. We have a great passing game with elite receivers, great running game with great RBs, two great QBs, and a top 5 defense. All of it working together creates the Champions that we are.

I imagine that the increase in donations across-the-board to the university makes it a no brainer. Football success gets a lot of people fired up at Clemson. Plus the notoriety that all this success brings nationally to the academic side of the university with increasing donations and research money.

Brad Scott is now close to the income he made when he was at USUCK. i think his buyout was like $400,000.00. Hard to believe that was close to 25 years ago. He will have a nice State retirement.

Feb 8, 2019, 2:19 PM [ in reply to We certainly need to pay all our assistants well, since per ]

I wouldn't say that it's the only reason, but it has been a big help in what we have done. Dabo deserve much of the credit bc he has replaced every coach that has left with equal or better coaches. And that goes with Dabo first knowing the character type he is after when replacing an assistant coach. The loyalty in Dabo's assistants has been awesome to this point, and that tells me that they believe in what Dabo is promising them!!!

Feb 8, 2019, 2:25 PM

;) it has always been known that keeping a championship team playing in your home stadium will cost more. And that goes back to an old saying that stands true today, you get what you pay for. If you want junk, buy junk, but if you want the best, the best cost a lot more than junk!!!

Key words, it was important to Dabo that his assistants got compensated for the work they done. In other words he said, take care of my people before thinking about himself!!! And that there folks is why our FB program is where it's at today!!!!

Success warrants merit in todays college football. Our coaches as a block are better than any other college football team. Not my opinion, its the facts. Glad we are keeping the "team together". Go Tigers in '19!
