Wow, and I thought I had problems with texting.

Feb 1, 2022, 4:53 PM

At least I haven’t texted the wrong person, yet.

The man is suing. I was pulling for this guy but man a GM has got to hire the best man for the job correct. Why in the heck with the money on the line in the NFL would you hire the 3rd best candidate? I’m sorry but all life’s issues are not skin related. I wish the guy well but be better you were 24-25.

Yup, that sux if that happend to him because of his race.

Feb 1, 2022, 5:08 PM

I heard about whites and asians getting turned down because of their skin color too. Just terrible when the most qualified are turned down because of their race. I wish him well too.

Hiring someone based on skin color is illegal.... and....

Feb 1, 2022, 5:08 PM

... is racism. Pure and simple. The NFL should be setup to hire the best persons for the job regardless of color. If so, there's no way their methods can't also be racially biased. what am I missing here?

You are not missing anything. Totally agree. This man has gotten mad and took some BS advice from a lawyer trying to get a pay day. I don’t doubt he is a decent coach but not many NFL teams are looking for 24-25 type coaches. Tomlin has had staying power because he has won. Just win and they won’t care if you are blue or purple.

32 billionaires own NFL teams. Like most owners of companies, they hire who they want to manage their property. But they also instituted the Rooney Rule -- some owners for merit and some for public relations. This lines them up for legal speculation for potentially not following their own policies to the letter.

I'm ambivalent on this subject. I disagreed when the Dolphins leadership criticized Flores for playing Fitzmagic over less capable Tua, and then forced the issue by trading Fitz. I am hoping the Jags hire Leftwich for the benefit of TL16.

But I do not believe Flores can beat the entire NFL at their own game (legal machinations) without some type of settlement. And Flores' case is too wide IMHO. Some and maybe most teams are not exhibiting what Flores claims is racist behavior. Seems Flores should be suing the NYG and a handful of other teams where he and his lawyers believe cause is established.

Of course it’s a soccer fan.

Leave it to fan of the beautiful game to make salient points on this suit.

A decision to hire, admit, or promote someone...

Feb 2, 2022, 9:22 AM [ in reply to Hiring someone based on skin color is illegal.... and.... ]

that is based on skin color, gender, ethnicity, or anything else other than who is the most qualified, it inherently flawed, racist, sexist and/or biased.

be about race. Lots of jobs will have their candidate and still interview.

The bigger issue here...

Feb 2, 2022, 10:47 AM

is the claim that he was incentivised to intentionally lose games in order to improve Miami's draft status.

This would be tantamount to conspiring to commit a confidence game.

The political and uh er 'legal climate' has never been better for lawsuits like Flores.

Strike while the iron is hot; take a nice pile of money when the NFL settles the suit; and make a big name outside of the NFL as a social justice warrior.

Major media and perhaps the political power players will then put a smart guy like Flores into either a TV news spot for a while, and then he'll be propped up to run for some sort of political office.

All part of the ######.

So let me get this straight...

Feb 2, 2022, 9:12 AM

If NFL teams don't interview minority head coaching candidates, they're racists?

If NFL teams do interview minority head coaching candidates but, for whatever reason, elect not to hire them, they're racists?

How convenient.

There's something in these hills.

The last thing the NFL wants is another PR nightmare...

Feb 2, 2022, 9:57 AM

so Flores won't likely have to actually prove anything.

What he has done is alienate the other teams in the league which may lead to some unintended consequences as it pertains to his future NFL coaching aspirations.

The owner of a business has the right to hire who the heck he wants to run his business. If he wants Billy Madison hire Billy Madison, if he wants Clark Griswald hire him, hell if he wants to hire Curious George to be his CEO it's his business, it's his money and no one should have a right to tell the owner who the hell he ought to hire!
