Would you rather have…

Dec 8, 2022, 12:11 PM

Beat the gamecocks and lost the ACC championship or the other way and what happened?

Can't change the past. I'll take it as is.

Palmetto Bowl or Orange Bowl... tough choice

I would have rather gone 9-3 or 8-4 than had to have watched a second year of virtually no progress. I have been a Clemson fan for 50 years and seen some bad Clemson football, but this floundering around, simply outlasting inferior opponents has been difficult to watch for the last 2 years.

What we have seen these last two years has been mediocre at best, not "best is the standard." It certainly has affected the morale of the team. I know the players love DJ as family, but there is a difference in the way people play when they feel you are giving yourself the best chance to win.

Yes, I hate to lose and 11-2 is great.

I ask this seriously and not to stir anything up. If we go 11-2 next year with Cade as our QB, will you still feel the same about our level of success?

Re: Would you rather have…

I do not take it as you stirring something up.

I love Dabo and I believe what he teaches the kids are the right messages. I don't think what we have seen on the field the last matches the Dabo philosophy and I think the results we have seen through player performance is quite possibly more mental/emotional than it is physical ability.

If we go 6-6 next year with Cade as QB and we are putting our best effort in I will be "happy." Again, I hate to lose, but if we are making progress, I'm good with whatever the results are.

Fair enough, for me personally, I will just say I will not be "happy" if we go 6-6, no matter who plays QB and even if we think we are playing our best ;)

I’m tired of all this “you should be happy with our record” crap, even if ignoring the weak ACC.

Hypothetically, if in 2018/2019 against Alabama in the CFP NC game, if Dabo pulled TL16 at halftime and put this year’s DJU in, and we proceeded to lose that game - would you yahoos still be saying how we should quit fussing about that coaching decision and just be happy with being 14-1? I mean a lot of teams would love to go 14-1.

It would be nice to be a fly on the wall, so we could actually know why certain decisions were made (or not made).

79,

I would have no trouble with our record if I thought that was all we were capable of. I made that argument all year long. The sticking point for me is that it now seems obvious that 11 - 2 was NOT the best we could do.

Losing to the Capons at home was unconscionable...

Dec 8, 2022, 12:33 PM

based on everything that was riding on the outcome of that game. The better team doesn't always win, but that was a game that Clemson absolutely should not have lost. It wasn't entirely DJ's fault that Clemson lost that game, but the was one of several contributors.

DJ's contributions to the USC loss was the one that the coaches could easily have remedied. THAT is the crux of the biscuit.

I know there are those on the boards who have been around a lot longer but I will take a championship after suffering through the Bowden years with great success against your rival but no hardware to show for it. The feeling in the stadium in 2011 after winning the ACC for the first time in 20 years was something I will never forget!

Beat the #####. Lose the ACC championship. Maybe we would have switched places with UNC and I could see us play in San Diego.
