Defense, for me. Not even close.
#1 defense and an offense that is 20th or better is good enough to win every game. An offense that is #1 and a defense that is #20 probably isn't.
Now, if you know your defense is no worse than #3, then having the #1 offense is most important. But, if you know your offense is no worse than #3, then having the #1 defense is most important.

The #1 offense with even a top 15 defense is an unstoppable team. We saw somewhat of an inverse of that last year.

Need more info about the opposite side of the ball before deciding. We saw, when healthy last year, what having a number one type defense and an anemic offense against UGA. Todays game you have to be able to score… I’d probably lean #1 O either way, but defense does still win championships… Look at us in 2018 vs a great offense, but our offense was a big part of the pressure we could put on D. 2016, great offense and good but not an all time D (pretty darn good though). The only recent natty won by a team with a bad defense was Bama in 2021, and both teams, OSU, had explosive offenses and average or poor defense.

Definitely offense. We would still have a top 5 D at worst. I am more worried about our O.

To get the big prize we need to play complimentary football meaning both sides are good. Does not really matter which is the lead dog as long as both perform
