Would you divert funds from football to the basketball program?
Mar 17, 2017, 12:01 PM

I read a lot on this bored and many of you are disappointed in the program. Do you ever hear the saying you are either a basketball school or football? But which teams are both?
UNC UCLA Oregon Maybe Wisconsin?
How do they manage to have all their sports programs to be successful? Is it because they are state institutions? Why?

That putting more commitment to basketball is somehow going to take away from football. As if football doesn't get anything and everything they want.

His assertion is it takes $3M/year to get a decent coach so I am wondering if that's true or just an arbitrary number.

The Cal coach just got 3 million a year to take the job at Missouri. Given the quality jobs open, less than 2 million a year is not going to cut it. We might as well keep our loser.

be good at basketball and great at football. Ohio State has won a football national championship in the last 10 years and in that same time they have made it to two Final Fours.
Then how many of those teams qualify if you expand your too narrow standard to include teams that have played in a national championship football game in the last 10 years? Oregon, ND, anyone else? What if you add P5 football conference champs?

My bad! The point is that we fund basketball at a much higher level. If we change coaches, shoot for the moon . Make Marshall an offer close to Dabo money. If he says no that's okay. It will signal to bigger name coaches that we will do what it takes to make basketball successful.

I happen to enjoy the basket, the foot, and the base at Clemson. I want them all to be great and none of them to take anything from the other.

That's another freaking excuse to keep a loser of a coach. That's why you go out recruiting and replace those players. Drad may keep the jerk but recruits know the truth. What good player would want to play for a lame duck coach? Clemson is a dumpster fire in basketball.

for multiple years???? He didn't leave after his freshman year but left as a Junior. So your recruiting plan was so poor that in two years after you knew he was going to be gone it still affected you? If you let a player leaving you affect you the year after he leaves I can understand it. BUT...two years down the road its on the coaching staff because he wouldn't have been there anyway.

OP asked for everything that Brad has been given. That's one reason that he left. We had a cheap athletic department at the time that worried more about academics than athletics. If OP had what Brad has now,he would have been successful.

Florida won back to back basketball natty's and nobody cared. I think you're one or the other. The other sport just distracts you for a while until the real sport starts..... and NO I wouldn't divert a dime from football to basketball. Pretty sure Football is already paying everyone else's bills.
