Would it help the D if the O slowed down?

Sep 23, 2012, 11:10 AM

I'm not sure pace really helps against a good, conditioned defense. I'm not saying change the whole offense, just slow it down a little and give our defense time to rest.

Thoughts?

Always thought that......have to play as a team

Morris has all the talent he needs, if they slow it down...may give defense time to regroup.

No.

Yes, our offense means that opposing offenses also get more possessions and thus statistically will put up more points than a team that runs a slower-paced offense. That's it. The problem with our defense is simply talent. We have a weak defensive line who could not get even the slightest pressure on EJ last night. The secondary is just terrible. The linebackers are decent, maybe even better than decent, but the other issues with the defense are too much for them to overcome. It's really that simple. There is no quick fix. We simply need to recruit better (read: better talent evaluation) and get deeper across the entire defense. We are going to have a bad defense for a few more years, unfortunately.

Very insightful post. All too often, recruiting gets hung up on stars not results 2,3,4 years down the road.

it's just that the coaching is terrible. It looks like BV is Kevin Steele part 2.

...their tackling skills. How about the D learn to tackle then make the opponent go 3 and out then they can take a rest.

it would help the D if we didn't go 3 and out.***

You may give the offense a pass, but I won't. We knew our D was not going to be a strength this year. 1st year of a new scheme and we obviously don't have talent across the line or in the secondary.

Our offense however has loads of talent. We cannot go 3 and out in an up tempo offense. Just can not. We need to learn to run the ball in the second half

No. All the d has to do is come on the field for 3 plays and

go off. What they need is a new strength coach.

Its good you brought this up .Having played back in the day you have to understand this .In the first qtr. the offence was rolling and the D held up ok not good but ok.

FSU made HALFTIME adjustments and we drank the coolaide.
Once they stopped the O and we go 3 and out that is the end of the defence.

We went from 5 to 6 play scoring plays to not being able to move the chains.
Add the field position we gave them in the kicking game.

The defence wore out and got rolled. The FSU D made changes at the half and shut or O down.
