Yes, as much as they protect "defenseless" players these days, there is probably not as much risk as in the past for someone taking a shot at the person who has gone down on their own prior to being down by contact. Makes it a little harder on the refs, but they need to be challenged anyway. I think it would make for a lot more exciting plays. I have always been a propoent of rules being the same at all levels (two feet in-bounds, Overtime, etc.) if nothing else but to make it easier as a fan to remember the differences: http://voices.yahoo.com/nfl-rules-vs-ncaa-rules-1358081.html

Negatory red rider

I hate the down by contact rule. To me it takes away from the skill level if being able to catch a ball in stride, or stay on your feet after stumbling to catch a ball.

I've had many debates with my brother-in-law regarding this topic. He disagrees, but to me there is something spectacular about an athlete having enough balance to stay on his feet (and inbounds for that matter). To be able to fall, get back up, and potentially score cheapens the gains of those that were able to do so without falling. Just one man's opinion...

What about a diving catch?

Much like the interception by Cushing just now in the Houston-San Diego game.
