Worst case scenario for ESPN

Nov 15, 2022, 11:16 PM

Undefeated UGA = SEC Champ
Undefeated Ohio State = BIG Champ
Undefeated TCU = B12 Champ
12-1 USC = PAC Champ
12-1 Clemson = ACC Champ

Tennessee is out / Michigan is out.

I mean, I can see reasons why they'd care, but not really in that scenario. I think the OP's point is that there couldn't be two+ SEC teams or two B1G teams, but the scenario he just laid out would be a huge ratings draw, no matter the match-ups, so I'm pretty confident they wouldn't mind it.

30 second commercial, so you're probably right: why would they care, as long as they're blowing up the games with ads.

I'm expecting an onslaught of ads, which will allow me extended food and beverage breaks with time leftover for bathroom trips! Probably, SS&S breaks, too....lol.

We've scene plenty of scenarios where conference

Champs have been left out over teams with similar records and no conference title so what would this season different? Considering where Tennessee is in how are they getting jumped? I wouldn't say they are out!

Assuming unc wins out we in this scenario have a championship and a win over a possible top ten opponent. Along with an extra game and we jump them.

If teams have the same number of losses you have never seen a champion left out.

You’ve actually never seen that but go off.***

what you are saying you've seen plenty of times literally

Nov 16, 2022, 9:48 AM [ in reply to We've scene plenty of scenarios where conference ]

has never happened with a 1 loss conf champ vs 1 loss non conf champ. 1 loss conf champ has always gotten in over a 1 loss non-champ. A 1 loss non-champ has only gotten in 3 times and each time the conf champs that have been left out have had multiple losses. Conference championships carry a huge weight that most of the media is ignoring. The media looks at Clemson at 9 and says they don't have enough left on their schedule to bump them over that many teams when many of those teams are going to automatically fall below Clemson the last weekend if we were to win a conf title. If TCU and USC lose we are in if we win out. We stand a really great chance if only 1 loses.

Well, no, we really haven't seen that. What we have seen is conference champions with more losses that an at large team left out.

TCU has to lose, hopefully their conference championship and we must win out. TN is in. OSU will hopefully beat Michigan, if conference champs we pass Bama, LSU, USC (with another loss) and Michigan. TCU wins out, they take the 4th spot.

TN is not in with no conference championship

Nov 16, 2022, 7:51 AM

Unless Clemson and TCU lose.

Your scenario is actually not complete. What happens if LSU beats Georgia in the SECCG? Do you think the committee would exclude LSU if they beat Georgia.
But say you are correct then the most likely scenario would be;
Georgia, OSU,TCU and Clemson.

And best case for ESPN is LSU wins the SEC.

Then they get to push for 3 teams from the conference.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think that’s a best case scenario…

Nov 16, 2022, 7:48 AM

They would love to have a PAC 12 team and a team from Texas.

HUGE ratings.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So Clemson would be out also. SC currently ahead of us.***

A 11-1 will most certainly be in the Playoffs.

If the season played out like that and the rankings did not change much:

Tennessee has wins over #6 and 8 with a loss to #1
USC has wins over #10, 16, 18, and 23 with a loss to #10
Clemson has wins over #13, 19, 24 with a loss to #18

I hate to say it, but I like Tennessee's chances in that and I don't like Clemson's.
