Does anyone know what David Hale's issue with CU is?

Nov 20, 2016, 12:00 AM

This dude always writes the most negative stuff about our boys. I don't buy into the supposed ESPN hate, but this dude? Yeah. I'm not a fan.

Is he the guy that Swinney tore into over 'Clemsoning'?

He is the ESPN guy to carry out their agenda

Nov 20, 2016, 12:11 AM

Since our success does not go along with ESPN's interest.Expect thing change when ESPN take over ACC network. He could be the biggest a$$-kissing person to us then.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the hate is real....

Nov 20, 2016, 12:15 AM

Not everybody on ESPN trashes us, but tell me another top ten team that has been so heavily criticized? And did you notice the play by play announcer kept on bringing up negatives about us. Glad that Brock Huard largely ignored that line of talk.

It's Bullcrap...! NEXT QUESTION

Anyone else noticing the work of a certain Network sports writer lately That constantly complains about what Clemson is NOT doing? Anyone else getting sick of it? I bet He wouldn't say these things to Dabo's face, or in a conference. I just bet. Reporters know now that if they try to pick apart a winning team at a Dabo press conference, you're going to get burned.

This same sports writer talked abut how our rungame was lacking last week. How did the Tigers repsond? Gallman went and set another record for rushing, while other backs got carries also. What is it with some of the guys? If you have read his latest column on the Win over WF and any of his other writing, He spends about 75% of his article ( with hyperlinks ) on the negatives and breaks down to pieces all that Clemson did not do to impress. Then He'll say a slight little line about them narrowly making the playoff picture, an on. Again, He wouldn't say that to Dabo and Tiger Nation knows it. Never the less, He does the main reporting for the Network, why- I'm not sure. Either way, as The Tigers keep winning in creative fashions, He probably have some more negative to say. I just wonder what He would say if the Tigers suprised and won it all?

Sure this Clemson team has not "blownout" all of it's competition all year long, and as Tiger fans we've seen the mistakes and read/discussed them on this board
with admiration for this team, it's players and the coaching staff. I vote for representation from Philpott - isn't he on the Network? I will say that some on the network say good things, and will tommorow. However, I don't think that I'm the only one dis-content with our representation of the main writer on the Big network. Clemson is 10-1, more football to play and securing ACC Title game - I'd say that Clemson is doing more right, than wrong. Ever consider that maybe Dabo's not showing all his cards? Maybe building depth?
All the hype about U of L, on a neutral field, etc. etc. Now, Clemson doesn't look sharp?
Trying to cast a shadow on the Tiger program? When the Tigers topple S.C and then win the ACC Championship, what complaints will they have then? Last time I checked, CFP Committee is concerned about conference championships, head to head matchups, top 25 wins- and W's. I'm not so sure though that all agree with some of the negative assessments of this Tiger team, and not just Tiger fans. Not a gurantee by any means, but I would bet there are alot of people out there that would like to see Clemson come back hang another 40 points on Alabama. Are there any teams that have done that yet ( or even came close ) since AL played The Tigers in Jan?

Tiger Nation and this team brush off the negative. Go ahead, put the Tigers as an underdog. They'll just keep going out there and winning. I was pleased with 95% of what I saw tonight - how's that, but that's just coming from a regular guy- not a staff writer.

My Take

Looked up his Bio, unless I misread it and I don't think I did, he's a Georgia guy. He used to write for a publication in Athens. His bio also says that he writes about the ACC with a focus on Fla St. and spouts some more baloney about his statistical analysis and nuanced reporting. If he had just said he was a Georgia homer that gets on his knees for the Criminoles, we could have ignored him from the git go. Just google David Hale ESPN bio, it's all there.

David Hale is generally very fair and pro Clemson

He is the guy who Dabo lit up, but if you follow him at all, you would know that he us one of the good guys.

But he didn't mention this in his game recap for us. He just went on and on about us being inconsistent. I believe this tweet is more of a response to the overwhelming negative response he received for his game recap.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You don't think it's somewhat concerning how we can

Nov 20, 2016, 1:39 AM

Be so dialed in and then go thru stretches where we just can't quite lay the final punch.

In general, we are terrible in the 3rd quarter after halftime. We never do anything except let the other team linger for those 1st possessions in 2nd half.

I understand that it's hard to do, but it's really because the standard is so high for this offense, , you think we shouldn't go 6 possessions in a row without scoring. In the end it's about winning, but the trend of letting teams hang around is a bit frustrating.

If you're being real, several posters on this site, including me, have echoed a similar message he has.

Maybe the problem is the majority of the people on this site are too myopic and closed-off to realize maybe Clemson is a great team with a lot of faults--mainly inconsistency--and that it's worth pointing out the faults of a team with such potential. Instead, the majority writes this off as national reporters having an agenda against Clemson, and other Clemson fans who bring this up as being "dumpers".

Re: Does anyone know what David Hale's issue with CU is?

Literally, I was wondering the same thing. Hale just seems to be negative towards us every time he gets a chance. I'm all for reporters being critical but he seems to go overboard. He immediately jumps to the conclusion that we didn't look sharp because we didn't score at a blistering pace after the 1st qtr. Yet he didn't mention the fact that we subbed all our RBs in the game. Coach Swinney is trying to build depth and practice on other aspects of the team. It just seems like Hale is waiting on us to lose so he can say I told you so.

David Hale is EXTREMELY fair to Clemson. If anything, he skews in favor of us. He's may have been critical of us at times, but not for some "hidden agenda" that all the tin foil hat wearers here believe in.

ESPN doesn't have an agenda against us...if anything, they've been in favor of us, especially in the preseason. When there are massive expectations, and the team doesn't live up to them visually, there's going to be criticism. So many people here fail to understand that, it would seem.

I don't follow your point? We looked great to start the game and then lost focus for the remainder of the game. It seems fair to say that we locked things up but didn't look crisp. Based on your post, the point is that we beat a better Wake team in Winston-Salem this year, with a pretty similar score to last year's game against a horrible Wake team at home, but have pretty stark differences in the tone of the game recaps.

In a vacuum, your point would make sense.

However last year, we won to advance to 11-0 and we had been imperfect, but very impressive in our games. We had a close call against Louisville in our third game, a tight win against a Top 10 Notre Dame squad, a shootout against NC State, and a hard-fought win against the Noles...we played arguably our worst game of the year against Syracuse the week before beating Wake, but given our track record, this seemed like more of an aberration than a trend.

This year, we started off with a tight win against an underrated Auburn team, and then followed that up by almost losing to Troy. These two games really set the tone for the season. We lost some of the benefit of the doubt with the media, whether that's fair or not, and needed to re-prove our mettle. We followed that up with impressive wins against Louisville & Boston College, and then fell flat on our faces against NC State, which raised more doubt.

We grinded out a win vs FSU and then rolled Syracuse...but our inconsistency reared its ugly head again and we lost to Pitt. When that happened, we deservedly lost all of our benefit of the doubt. We're back to square one, and every mistake we make will now be put under the microscope. We won tonight, and we looked great for 18 minutes while doing it...the next 42 minutes, not so much.

Does it stink? Can it be frustrating? Can it be unfair? Yes. Absolutely. Part of that is the expectations we have set for our program, another part is the media waiting to sink their teeth in to any mistake we make because we're near the top now. However, whenever I've read David Hale's stuff, I've always found him to be pretty objective. Even if he has an opinion I don't agree with, it's not coming from a place that is unfair. Get your head on straight and realize we're not always going to like what others write about us. Even if it's not fair, it doesn't always come from a bad place. Learn to disagree with someone without accusing them of having an agenda to destroy us.

The point was, we won by less last year against Wake and ESPN said "we romped" them. This year, we beat a better Wake team on the road, and win by more. However, this year's article said we're "not very crisp." Score and game played out very similar to last year's game. "Romp" vs "not very crisp."

Im not part of the ESPN conspiracy theorist. I find it amusing that we do almost the same thing , but articles written about us are very different. Tone of the 2 games was very similar.
