We are close to living in a theocracy because the Supreme Court gave the individual states the freedom to decide for themselves on abortion? Not really seeing that one.

The majority didn’t strike down Roe because of its constitutionality…they knew how they would rule before they ever heard the case…not based on law, but their own personal beliefs. It will be the same for gay marriage and contraceptives eventually. Interracial marriage will survive because that would hit too close to home for Thomas.
And once back in the states, what grounds will those legislatures use to completely outlaw abortion, gay marriage, etc…their religion.
Federal lawmakers have also already said they want to pass a national abortion ban one they are in the majority. Their quotes (including Pence) are easy enough to find…they don’t disguise the fact that their basis would be their religious beliefs. Would the SC be consistent and rule such a federal law unconstitutional to remain consistent with their ruling on Roe? I know what I think.
What about any of that wouldn’t mean living in a defacto theocracy? The Tea Party was called the American Taliban by some…turns out they would be mild in comparison to the current iteration of Christofascists now in charge.
