With the draft starting tomorrow

Apr 27, 2022, 6:15 PM

I thought I'd do something fun and guess where Clemson players are gonna be drafted. I actually find the NFL draft to be more entertaining that most regular season NFL games, so for this years draft I'm going to take a blind guess at where the Clemson Tigers will be drafted. I have no insider knowledge so take these with a grade of slaw.

Round 1
Pick 30 - KC Chiefs Andrew Booth Jr CB - Booth has the talent to go in the top 20 but this is a really deep draft class for CB's so he'll be picked toward the end of the 1st round. The chiefs have picks 29 and 30 in the first round and I think they'll go WR at 29 and then look at CB for the 30th. Unless Stingley or Gardner slide Booth will be the best CB on the board and get picked up here.

Round 2
No Tigers picked :(

Round 3
Pick 84 - Pittsburg Steelers Justyn Ross WR - The Steelers got Mitch Trubisky (who's not very good) to replace Ben Roethlisberger and payed close to nothing for him. That tells you the Steelers don't have very high expectations this year which means they can afford to take risk in the draft. Enter one of the riskiest players in the draft in Justyn Ross. Ross in 2018 and 2019 was a top 10 pick, Ross in 2021 was undraftable. That probably lands him in the 3rd round and I think the Steelers are the one to pull the trigger and hope they get the healthy version of Ross.

Pick 92 - Green Bay Packers Mario Goodrich CB - I've seen Mario projected anywhere from the 3rd round to the 6th round so this is a tough one to predict. I think Mario will go in the third due to the fact that a lot of CB's are going to be drafted early and the demand could cause some teams to start and reach for a corner. I think Goodrich benefits from this and the Packers love drafting defense and might be looking for a CB at this spot.

Round 4
Pick 126 - Las Vegas Raiders Nolan Turner S - I'm going to be honest, after watching Nolan Turner this season I thought he fit in the 6th round, maybe late 5th. However, he was easily the star during Clemson's pro day with some impressive measurables and I think he's gonna get a draft bump for that. The Raiders have shown him some interest and it seems like they really like the last "too small" white guy they got from Clemson.

Round 5
No Tigers picked

Round 6
No Tigers picked

Round 7

Pick 228 - Green Bay Packers Baylon Spector LB - We make it to the last round and I think this is where the Bruise Brothers will fall. Both are solid tacklers, play physical and smart, but both are a little slow in pass protection and the NFL is more pass heavy now than any time in history. I think Baylon goes first being a bit bigger and quicker and the Packers are the only team I can find that showed any sort of interest. He'll probably make a contribution on special teams and in the 7th round that's considered a win.

Pick 241 - Pittsburg Steelers James Skalski LB - The last drafted player from Clemson will be our defensive leader. Skalski is just a product of the gap between college football and the NFL. He's a great college player but won't project well to the NFL. Keep an eye on James though, coaching might be in his future and that would be exciting to watch.

I'll be waiting by my phone tomorrow. Atlanta has been looking at me for almost 40 years now. This could be the year they pull the trigger. Facts are facts. They've had very little success without me.
