With so much focus on the special teams issue I wonder....

Jul 18, 2016, 1:58 PM

Is anyone looking at the poor safety play that cost us so much in the Natty last year?

We averaged 2.67 kickoffs per game last year (40 total)

We gave up 4.73 plays of 20 yds or more per game (71 total). Most of that was on the safteies being out of position or not making a competative play on the ball.

I have to believe that is the highest priority area of concern

Their RB out of the backfield is our WEAKEST play. If I played CLEMSON, I'd run that play so many times, our safeties would puke. GT could have beaten us a couple years ago (3?) if Paul Johnson had enough sense to run that play more often. Chunk play almost every time. It's like a free gift. I can't believe that we fail on that play so often.

That's Rambo Boulware not staying at home in middle

Yes---he's a scud/stud missile, but his random & reckless overplays hurt us up the gut ALOT.

There is no question that safety play cost us more TDs than special teams. The biggest difference from last year will be safety play. Special teams pales in significance...below average but not nearly as costly. Both are be areas of concern moving forward.

Man, we definitely need help in special teams. Yes, sir.
I agree we need to protect up the gut runs.(Dalvin and Henry showed that once or twice). - But Big Dex and Wilkins should help stop the gut run.
I felt like there were many lazy safety plays in Kearse last year. Man, he has so many physical gifts, but not the fire that Ben B. has. -- The monster Ben does fly up to the ball often, but I'd take his instincts to do so over tentative play any day.
