With Pace/Mafa running so hard and Shipley potentially back

in the mix.. if would be fun to see the speed of Shipley at slot. The jet sweeps and potential separation would be a refreshing change

Smart post ... I'd love to see Shipley in a role similar to T.Etienne's last year.

Move Shipley around and have him play a virtual slot position on some formations. This boy can catch the pigskin, and is quick enough to get open. Whether he knows the routes to run is the question.

The problem with that is the same one we had with Taylor

he's never played WR. In order for him to be a viable threat, he has to be a threat to run the routes and catch the ball, or else teams will key on him when in the game. If all he can do is run the jet sweep or be a decoy, it's not much good. Neither Shipley nor Taylor have ever run routes as a WR, never been asked to catch the ball as a WR. Could either do it in time? Sure. But asking guys to excel at that as true freshmen moving from another position, and Shipley off an injury to boot, isn't realistic.

Maybe we see some packages with him in the slot. I'm sure they had a pass in the playbook with Taylor off of it with him being a QB. But until they can actually function effectively at the position, it's not going to help much

Really, we have no idea what Shipley's capabilities as a receiver are. We've never seen him in that situation. We never saw Etienne as a receiver, until we did, and he turned out to be pretty good at it. Maybe Shipley is too. It'd be pretty dynamic if he were to have that ability, and Lord knows, we need something to spark this offense.

receiver. It's a primary reason he stayed. I'm sure Shipley could do it, as I'm sure Taylor will. But throwing a true freshman in to a totally different position and expecting him to even be functional, and off an injury, seems a big reach.

At this point in the season... why not try?

It can't hurt to try.
