Beating him on the field will probably not change his

perspective on academics. Nor should it. I'm not sure he said anything that's not basically true.

No, we've never played UCLA in football. We've played them in hoops and I'm pretty sure we've played them in soccer.

What evidence did he provide that UCLA is a harder college than Clemson or Alabama.

Was that his point? I guess I missed that. I thought his point was more along the lines of some athletes just want to get to the NFL and don't care about academics (which I agree with 100%). Plus I thought that some athletes are able to bypass academic requirements at certain schools that place sports so highly (which I also agree with 100%). Not sure if he said those things that I thought he said, but I have seen both first-hand, so I'll say them. When it happens to YOUR child, it sticks in your mind as being wrong. Just sayin'.

The ranking like US News are focused on selectivity and obviously UCLA can be more selective being in the most populated state than Clemson in the 23rd most populated state.

USC is a huge university relative to state population compared to Clemson so it can't be selective.

The reality is all the 'flagship' Uni of State and land grant universities are good universities.

In the US news and World Report rankings, a big part of the ranking is based on academic reputation and all schools in the California system vote for each other.

My impression of his comment was that certain schools (curriculums / disciplines) within a university are harder than others. Engineering and Architecture are harder than Sociology or Communication, for example.

He appeared to imply that getting a degree in Sociology in three years was a lot more do-able than some more rigorous courses of study.

That seemed to be what he was saying, and even though I'm very proud of my hard-earned Clemson degree in Secondary Education, I would be the last one to argue with his point.
