Winning, Recruiting and Culture

Jun 25, 2015, 1:02 PM

I hope we don't become the kind of team that starts recruiting questionable kids because we want to win one more game or get in the "big four".

I am a huge Dabo fan, but I wonder if we sometimes reach on a low character kid because we believe in the power of our culture?

If we do or don't... I have no idea how to draw a line. It's just not predictable and our success rate is really good on and off the field. I hope it stays that way and with Dabo in charge I think it will.

I am a bitter and angry man.

If you think about it, we're working with a team of ~115 people here. Out of a sample of that many 17-23 year olds, you're bound to have a few that get in trouble not because they're bad people, but because they make dumb decisions. Not excusing anyone's mistakes, but it's a simple statistical probability.

You make a good point. Life is about choices and unfortunately the consequences of those choice. As awesome as our program is, we're not immune to these kinds of problematic kids. How we handle it is what separates us from the pack.
