Williams "fumble"

Oct 16, 2016, 6:42 PM

Am I the only one who thought Williams was down 5 yards up the field before the ball came loose? He had the ball in one hand and
put his hand (and the ball down) to keep upright. Should not the ball have been down right there? Ball ouched the ground! Watch the replay.

I don't believe a runner is down when the ball touches the ground - only when his knee or elbow come in contact with the ground.

I did think his wrist hit on one of the replays, which would've been down, but I wasn't sure

I thought the back of the hand counted as down too. Maybe that's an NFL rule?

I thought the ball hit the white line

between his knees. Ball's too long not to have touched it,but without 110% proof ,it wasn't going to get changed.

I thought the guy who tackled him went out of bounds

Oct 16, 2016, 7:31 PM

...and after Williams fumbled he fell on top of the guy who was out of bounds, making him out of bounds too...and then he knocked the ball while he was lying on top of the guy who was out of bounds, making it a dead ball and the play over.

If Mike was only on top of the guy who was out of bounds he is not out of bounds himself. I think it's like if he only landed on a player who is down then he is not down himself.

He would have had to touch the white then touch the ball. But I do believe his wrist hit the ground, which I think makes him down.

That doesn't make him out of bounds. Remember when Artavis stepped on the coot's hand when he scored? With your logic that would've meant the score wouldn't have counted

Yep, makes since, kind of like the 5-peat squash***

So you can tackle someone by stepping out of bounds and touching them? Would make sideline routes a cinch to cover if that were true, wouldn't it?
