Will NIL donations hurt IPTAY?

Seeing the post about Tiger Impact makes me wonder if college sports fans will start to put more emphasis on giving to NIL groups than to the athletic departments of the schools they support.

In our case, will IPTAY donations go down as fans channel donations to NIL groups that help bring in the recruits?

Sure, tickets are connected to IPTAY donations...but attendance numbers for college football have been dropping for a while. And lots of fans have figured out they can get good seats for big games on the secondary market.

I know the genie is already out of the bottle, but I have the idea that the unintended consequences from all of this NIL stuff is going to ruin college athletics.

I still give to IPTAY because of the awesome seats I get at bowl games

LOL! Crappy bowl tix, evicting folks from west stands, no loyalty to the long time donors, etc. They will pay the price for being fat and happy at the moment.

My guess is NIL changes again in the next two years. Some tighter parameters and more definition are put around it. Businesses and boosters also learn that throwing money at young kids doesn't necessarily yield championships.

Some players also get pissed when their NIL deals go away because they aren't the stars that they appeared to be during recruiting and they slam the boosters and companies sponsoring their deals and that causes the boosters/companies to be more cautious. I think this all causes NIL to come back to earth.

If the US gets sucked deeply into a multi-country conflict in Europe that may also make throwing millions at high school athletes look frivolous.

I think ultimately you will see a bit less money being spent on shiny things to lure recruits, and more of that money going directly to the recruits in the form of NIL deals.

Why throw money at IPTAY so they can have gold plated everything and ridiculous salaries when all you need to do to have a winning team is kick money to the NIL?

I can’t honestly say but I feel it would surely reduce Iptay donations. Cannot see how it would not. Hoping I’m wrong.
