F150 Electric

May 12, 2021, 2:30 PM

What do we think of this move? It’s all the rage around here.

The hybrid F150 makes sense to me

All electric doesn’t.....

I'd take one....after seeing the hummer demand seems

dumb not to. Will it really go 300 miles though? Probably not.

Re: I think Ford has lost it

First, they sabotage the Mustang name by calling some inflated Tesla SUV knockoff a "Mustang".

Now, they are ruining the Lightning name too? That truck was bad ass in its day. Some little poosay EV Truck gets the title now?

I can actually see an EV having a ton of torque, cause electric. But, range/time would be drained quickly. Or, 3/4 gross weight will be lithium-ion

Sad.

Been excited to see it since they announced it a year ago...

Looks like it will start around $70k which is a lot of coin. No XL or XLT trim available.

That said, Ford still has the $7,500 tax credit which will help. It will be the fastest F-150 ever which means it will be darn quick. Rumors are 300 mile or more range. I'm very skeptical for that as the Mach-E underdelivered.

If it gets a 300+ mile range, I think it will be a home run. We'll know a whole lot more in a week.

Will it cost less than $50k?

*shakes magic 8-ball*

"Signs point to no."

I love the thought of a hybrid or an all-electric. But they're going to price it to where the everyday truck users can't afford it. If there's really a desire to have these vehicles impact the emissions in the United States (and we are by far not the worst offenders from a global perspective), it has to be available and appealing to the masses. High torque output of an electric motor = appealing, although horsepower is the "sexy" number.

More than $50k for a new truck is not appealing. (which is why jroberts is driving a 2015 Colorado and has no urgent desire to "upgrade")

Have you priced a new truck?

May 12, 2021, 4:29 PM

You can barely get into an XLT for $50k.

Inflation is coming, and fast.

Electric is rumored to start at $70k in Lariat Trim. I'm guessing 4-wheel/All-wheel drive will be ~$80k.

Until batteries get cheaper, EVs will continue to be expensive. Really expensive.

A Ford F150 was a $75K truck 2 years ago.

You can still buy a 2500/3500 series GM with a Duramax cheaper than you can a moderately loaded F150.

Yeah, which is why I'm glad I'm set for a while

May 12, 2021, 5:50 PM [ in reply to Have you priced a new truck? ]

I go out and look every once in a while to see what the new bells and whistles are that are being offered. And every time I see the price tag I run away. Trucks got wicked expensive really fast. And I just don't know if I believe the numbers that are advertised for the full size trucks with the 6 cylinder engines. Neither the EPA numbers nor the torque/horsepower performance numbers.

Again, glad I have my 2015 Colorado. Not a full size, but rarely do I find I need a full size's capacity.

Nah, my next truck will be a 7th gen ‘Burban.

3 or 4 spd manual if I can find it.
