Will ESPN’s crew mention USuC’s trashy fans in pre-game ?

Nov 5, 2023, 1:33 PM

They need to report on it. It’s a real problem and therefore a real story that should be brought to the forefront. It isn’t something that happens everywhere as Coot U supporters will try to tell you. It’s abhorrent behavior exhibited by a fan base which has now now lost any semblance of class. It’s a problem gone out of control because the ones in charge at USC have willfully ignored and excused the behavior for years.

It’s a culture issue. As fan base and even the university itself embraces the nastiness. The last rivalry game I attended in Columbia was the last game of their glorious five-peat. You’d have thought by that point they’d be over losing to us and actually learned how to win with class but that was not the case. My daughter and I were pelted with ice no less than three times, each time concurrent with Tahj Boyd being sacked. Making our way down the isle with about a minute to go we had one Carolina fan trying to draw everyone’s attention to us, imploring every fan in the vicinity to engage in taunting us and hurling more ice and trash. That’s the way their fans act.

But the University of South Carolina itself also willingly engages in detestable behavior. At the end of the third quarter they ran a skit on their big screen with a college age black girl posing as a Clemson student who could not spell at all or even speak coherently. Of course the home crowd laughed and jeered but it should have been offensive to any black people in attendance regardless of university affiliation. To run that skit was an egregious oversight sponsored by people in charge at USC which implied black people are stupid. ......All in the name of attempting to ratchet up rivalry nastiness.

I grew up in Columbia...........in a Gamecock household. I saw it firsthand. The jealousy has been palpable since I was a kid back in the 70’s. Part of the culture of being a Gamecock fan is you have to declare your hatred for all that is orange. .....No, you REALLY have to HATE Clemson. That widespread hatred toward your rival is not reciprocated on the same level from the Clemson side of the rivalry. We don’t particularly like the gamecocks, but we don’t obsess over “hating” them. I’d say were more annoyed with the Gamecocks than anything. We don’t have fans calling into WCCP, foaming at the mouth, yelling “I HATE Carolina !!! They don’t sell t-shirts in Clemson saying, “I hate Carolina”.

Today U5C jealousy has turned to unchecked, vile displays of incivility. It past time for it to stop being ignored and excused. It needs to be called out publicly. As evidenced by increasing predictable incidents, the amount of fans involved and the extremes they go to, it’s clear this already out of control problem will only get worse until the University honestly addresses it and takes real measures to stop it. I personally don’t believe they will ever have the backbone to take a stand until they can no longer deny they have an issue. .......And that’s why the media has a responsibility to report on it instead of conveniently ducking the issue.

There's something in these hills.

I’m sure they will at some point, because TV announcers

Today rarely tell you what’s happening on the field. They are more interested in telling you their views on social issues and 2nd questing the coaches.

USuC is in the SEC. ESecPN will not mention anything negative about them. But I am sure that ostarine will be mentioned.

USuC’s trashy fans

Let's keep things in perspective. It's water bottles. Tasteless yes. End of the world sort of stuff? No.

I have no doubts there will be increased security down there pre-game. Some kids will throw stuff because they are kids. A handful of them will be hauled off and ticketed for something. The rest will see it and hold back later on. In the second half, it won't matter, they will all be gone and in Five Points by then.

I hate Carolina and I would buy a T shirt that says "I hate Carolina." I'd pay extra if it said "I hate both Carolinas."

At UofSuCk, they’re forever talking about needing to change their culture. In my opinion this is the part of their culture that needs to change before they’ll ever realize long term success. They are the whiniest fan base I’ve ever seen. They act like petulant children demanding to be respected as relevant in the college football world and when their program just continues to be irrelevant, they throw fits.

They are sure there are conspiracies after conspiracies that keep them down along with a myriad other excuses ranging from injuries, to schedule, to bad officiating, to Clemson cheats and if weren’t for all that, they’d be at the top of the football world. Until they look inward and take honest assessment of their own culture no one should ever be worried about them.

They certainly have some horrible fans, and I think having their feelings hurt so much over the walk is beyond stupid. However, in terms of whiny fans, do you read this message board very often?
