Mar 31, 2013, 5:30 PM

Kinda like some people love CFB but hate the NFL its all in what you want.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

HMMM, never met anyone who hated the NFL

Mar 31, 2013, 5:34 PM

Football pretty much moves on from college to pro.

In basketball it is two entirely different games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If it wasn't for fantasy football

Mar 31, 2013, 5:57 PM

I would not care too much about the NFL. I like it, but I would not follow as closely. It, like the NBA is different from its college counterpart.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, the NFL and NBA are football and basketball...

Mar 31, 2013, 6:00 PM

played at the highest levels. 10 times out of 10, people who don't like the pro version of a sport, do not understand the sport.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

10 out of 10

Mar 31, 2013, 6:14 PM

just because you don't like one thing as much as the other doesn't mean you don't understand. Why should I feel any attachment to an NFL team? My team fails to spend money and hasn't draft a RB in the first 4 rounds of the draft since 2004, even though the running game has been an issue for years. It is fun to watch them, but I don't get sucked in like I do with Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What your talking about is how emotionally attached you...

Mar 31, 2013, 6:19 PM

are to your college team vs your pro team. I'm into Clemson way more than my pro teams. But at the same time, I know the NFL, NBA, and MLB are the highest level of play.

As much as I love college football, I enjoy watching the NFL more. In the NFL no matter how bad your team is, a QB staring down his receivers is going to get picked. In college QB's stare down receivers all the time and the D doesn't make plays on the ball. Perfect example, Dylan Thompson staring down receivers the whole game against us, yet our DB's were unable to make plays on the ball.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That emotional attachements leads to

Mar 31, 2013, 6:36 PM

how much you like something though. On those 4 Saturdays that Clemson does not play this Fall, I will be watching college football day. That next day I will set my fantasy roster and watch whatever non-Panthers game I get. I will not like the game as much as what I watched the day before. It has nothing to do with understanding, and more so to do with attachment, when it comes to liking a sport at any level. You can see and feel that passion for college football in every game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i will give you the NFL....

Mar 31, 2013, 9:57 PM [ in reply to Yeah, the NFL and NBA are football and basketball... ]

....but when it comes to pure basketball IMO there is nothing better than the college game these days.

I used to love to watch the NBA back when Magic, Bird, Jordan, Ewing, etc. were playing, but the game nowadays just out and out sucks.

There are plenty of reasons to watch NBA. It's stupid to hate on a league that inspires every college basketball player.

is in it's worst era by a long shot.

Because the NBA even with it's terrible officiating is a….

Mar 31, 2013, 5:54 PM

trillion times more fun to to watch than the foul fest and 8 minute scoring droughts that have become college basketball

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can say that since Jordan/Bird/Magic retired

Mar 31, 2013, 7:05 PM

I have never, not once, had a conversation with a friend, relative, or acquaintance at work/school/church about the NBA. It's just not very relevant to most folks.

People used to talk about Larry Bird, or Jordan a good bit in general public settings - "water cooler" talk you may say. But now? Nothing. We talk college sports (most all of them) every day, a little Braves or NFL from time to time, but NBA - never.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I still watch it, but the NBA isn't doing itself any favors

Mar 31, 2013, 7:11 PM

when you have BS like this Spurs-Heat situation going on. I was looking forward to that game tonight, and it looks like the Heat are repaying the Spurs for sitting their players a few months ago by sitting their players tonight. Just stupid and its the casual fan still trying to hang on to watching the NBA, like me, that really says screw it. Fans like yourself and the hard core NBA fans are the ones that are indifferent to this BS.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I couldn't name 10 current NBA players right now

Mar 31, 2013, 7:20 PM

after the first 6 or 7, I would be guessing.

Me and a buddy were having this discussion the other

Mar 31, 2013, 7:29 PM

day, how as we get older, just less and less people we know talk about basketball or have a clue what is going on with it. I don't know why but it seems to be a sport that unless you play it or did play it, at least in this area, you just lose interest in if you ever had it in the first place. This is football, baseball, and NASCAR country around here with people I run into. Mostly football....want to talk about football year round.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So foul fests and 8-12 minute scoring droughts is...

Why would anyone watch basketball period?

Mar 31, 2013, 6:43 PM [ in reply to Re: HMMM, never met anyone who hated the NFL ]

I mean come on, whats to like? Probably the most boring sport next to golf and tennis!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It actually seems to me that college basketball has gotten

Mar 31, 2013, 5:59 PM

worse in recent years while the NBA has gotten better.

I'm a long-time NBA hater, and mainly because of Clemson, have always loved college basketball. I still love watching Clemson, but IN GENERAL, I think college basketball has gotten much more physical than it was 15-20 years ago, and has chosen to ignore or selectively enforce certain rules, while I think the NBA has trended slightly the other direction. I still don't care for the vastly overblown egos that seem to be prevalent in the NBA, but the fundamental skill level is phenomenal and rules the day. On the other hand college games in recent years often resemble street brawls that somehow involve throwing a ball at a basket.

Today's games, or individual games may be the exception, but that is my general impression.

Re: why would anyone ever, ever watch the NBA

Mar 31, 2013, 9:51 PM

and said the same a year ago in a lively debate on here.

College basketball in the NCAA tourney, esp final 16 on, is the highest level of play in the land. The skill level and ability of players might be slightly less, but this is offset by a much more competitive atmosphere. One time I switched the channel to an NBA game and it looked like the players were moving in slow motion and not trying, compared to the NCAA tournament. This is b/c NBA players are slogging thru a very lengthy season that diminishes the energy, importance, and effort in individual games. The NBA playoffs is way too long and is a season in itself.

And you just don't see the competitiveness and intensity that you see with college, the tournament.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did you watch the NBA Playoffs?

Apr 1, 2013, 7:21 AM

You can't compare march madness to a random NBA regular season game. The Heat-Celtics and OKC-SA series' last year were great.

The regular season outside of big matchups is pretty mundane, but the playoffs are great.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Though never much of a basketball afficiando, I don't dare

Apr 1, 2013, 7:42 AM

tell some close friends that, because they live and breathe for BB season, regardless of the teams and venues. Then, come fall, they are root hog and die into football, again regardless of the teams and venues. My problem has been my overt affinity for football to the point that after bowl games and the NC, I usually want a break from sports. However, as with most things, I take the attitude: to each his own...and more power to you. (I still think they ought to lengthen the BB courts to 100 yards, raise the nets up about 30 feet...and allow tackling. lol)
