Why was Seckinger's UGA TD reviewable and not NCSU's dude?

Sep 27, 2013, 10:59 AM

is it because the whistle had not blown until after he made the lunge to the pylon? seems like similar situations otherwise. thanks

I've heard the whistle killed the NC St review. Everything stops when the whistle sounds. Also heard Seckingers was reviewed because it was inside the 5 and a possible scoring play.

An out of bounds play blown dead by an official is only reviewable within the five yard line, which Seckinger was and the NCSU was not.

That's the rule whether it makes sense or not

The body works better with a proper nerve supply.

It's because NCAA rules prohibit .......

because Seckinger's grab was inside the 10 yard line...all plays reviewable inside 10 yard line...

Its amazing to me that people are still on this.

It was a bad call by the line judge to say the guy stepped out. However, you can't possibly review that because if our players hear the whistle and stop chasing the guy then he runs another 50 yards and scores. Then they review and say he never stepped out and he scores. That would be just as unfair to us as the bad call was to them.

The only fair solution in this case is to have the line judge make a mental note of his belief that the guy stepped out, not blow his whistle, let the play develop and then review it.

One bad call doesn't make a rule bad. The rule makes complete sense.

The biggest thing I noticed from that play was that two different refs signaled two different things. If they go with the ref that called it a touchdown then they should still be able to review whether he steps out. It was bad officiating but that is all.

Question about that (sorry to drag this out further)...

Say the line judge believes that the NCSU guy stepped out and he makes the mental note you mention but doesn't blow the whistle. The NCSU guy scores. Does the line judge then have the chance to say that that the ruling on the field is that the player stepped out? Or is the runling on the field a TD? Because we all know that the ruling on the field stands without irrefutable video evidence.

I would think that, in this case, they'd give the line judge the opportunity to say what the ruling on the field is without him having to blow the play dead. Correct?
