How long before eligibility rules go out the window?

If a "student athlete" (hah) want to stay in school and get his masters or his doctorate, while playing football and earning NIL dollars, why can't he play six years? Eight years? How can he be forced to leave a job that pays him well and leaves him in a setting where he can better prepare himself for life after football. Why be forced to the NFL when the college game pays plenty?

Bingo.

Think you will see College Football expand in years played. Can we get a player like Nuk Hopkins back?

Lol. Things are going to get wild with all these new rule changes.

You mean like the COVID extensions? Athletes have had 7 years of eligibility if they game the system the correct way. I predicted a B- O-lineman without NFL prospects could use his maturity to dominate at the NCAA level. If he's getting $150K in NIL he's probably not going to bring that in on his first job out of college.

Why Not?

The thing is; it's not too far fetched.

Number of years will be challenged as well as # of years before a kid can be eligible to go to the next level(you're knowingly preventing someone from earning a professional position).

Simple, college is college, not pro and there has to be rules. Stop overthinking and go with the flow.

The "rules" seem to be falling by the wayside on a regular basis. And even when rules are in place, if there is no enforcement, then the rules become nothing more than a pretense.

You mean like the TE for Miami, He's playing his 9th year of college as we speak. Granted he's had a lot of injuries but it used to be 1 year of medical redshirt not 3.

Easy answer. They are not.

The athletes are contractors or term employees. Their employment is over at the end of the contract.

No one is "forced" into the NFL. Less than 2% of college football players ever get a NFL contract. Almost no other atletes do except for the occasional soccer kicker or track guy that adaora to WR.
