Cris Carter on Bryant transfer: “Don’t make a 3 or 4-year decision. Make a 40-year decision”

HOF NFL wide receiver Cris Carter is not a fan of Kelly Bryant's decision to transfer from Clemson. "Urban Meyer and I talked about this with kids. Don't make a Read Update »

Cris Carter is 100% correct

Sep 27, 2018, 8:52 PM

IMHO we will not see KB play significant snaps at another FBS team in his college career. And Clemson is moving on in two days.

Sometimes people cant see the forest for the trees. At least Chris Carter was able to convey it in a way that puts all the drama in perspective.

Tajh Boyd didn't last long in pro football, but he's got a great post-football career going.

Shame KB didn’t take a few days to consider his options and listen to advice like Chris Carter’s. Hope it works out for him.

To me it appears he made an emotional, snap decision. To attend a team and position meeting but not follow up with practice speaks volumes to me. He should have consulted with the coaches before he texted Dabo. He can still stay on campus and take his redshirt year. I am not going to kick anyone to the curb that is suffering an emotional breakdown. I honestly think all of his emotion from his health issues and football finally hit him on Wednesday. Kelly has alway smiled through adversity and it caught up with him on Wednesday. I hope that the team physician is checking on him. Dabo has to move on and get the team ready for Syracuse but, we should all be concerned for Kelly and his well being.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe it's possible for him to reconsider?

Sep 28, 2018, 9:00 AM

As someone who also suffers from Crohn's, I agree with you and can tell you this type of illness takes its toll on you and your emotions. I pray he finds his way, and does well for himself.

Telling people "Work hard and do the right things and you can be whatever you want to be" is good advice for most people, but for others it will cause them to work themselves to death pursuing impossible dreams.

KB needed some truth four years ago. When you can't beat out a walk-on, even as a freshman, you're not headed to the NFL and you might want to consider changing positions.

He has worked hard and has improved his game so that he has become a good college QB. I was surprised that he beat out Hunter Johnson. We have won games that we wouldn't have because of KB. He took us to the playoffs. He HAS done all the right things up until this week.

Still, all the love and support of our coaching staff and all the hard work that he has put in doesn't change the fact that defenses don't respect his arm deep and he hasn't consistently made them pay for it. His athleticism makes him dangerous in the college game, but that's not going to get him anywhere at the next level.

You can see in his body language since the spring game that this has been taking its toll on him. He can't shake off the bad ones like DW did. (DW threw a LOT of bad balls—he just threw a lot more good ones.) And yes, I'm sure there is a lot of pressure on him to not be like his cousin.

I'm really worried about KB, too. I hope someone is checking in on him.

Yikes, they don't really know what they are talking about...

Carter also says KB ain't playing QB in the NFL...

Sep 27, 2018, 10:23 PM

The BEST thing KB could do is call Dabo tonight and come back to the team. He can then RS and bulk up as TE or play WR. He MIGHT have a shot at the NFL then if he shows out next year. If not, then cash in on those CLEMSON BRIDGES HE REBUILT by coming back to the team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just dont think KB would be

Sep 27, 2018, 10:47 PM

welcomed back at this point. Too much drama and baggage. We don't need the further distraction. Just put this episode in the rear view, and go win this weekend in a way that makes this not that important.

We've dealt with guys going through personal issues before. DJ Reader left for a month during the 2016 season. Jay Guillermo had a lot he had to work through. I trust the coaching staff to handle such a situation properly.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why had to put in own subject?

Sep 28, 2018, 3:48 AM

Sounds like words of wisdom to me:) ...Also you never know how the season will go...Similar situation happened with Watson & Stoudt, but Stoudt stayed & when Watson got hurt Stoudt was able to help Clemson finish strong, including a sweet 40-6 bowl win against Oklahoma...and Bryant is also much more a part of the plan on offense than Stoudt was...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Why had to put in own subject?

Sep 28, 2018, 7:37 AM

Stoudt did not have the same option as KB so it’s not apples vs. apples to compare the 2. But it did work out best for him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Man he makes a great point about forfeiting that family

Sep 28, 2018, 8:11 AM

aspect of college and clemson after football. Kelly has forfeited that comradery with this decision and it will never be what it could have been for his future. For instance coming back to games and walking around and buddying up with your past teammates and coaches 3/4/5 years from now at a Clemson game. Its all tainted and maybe gone forever. It sucks for him b/c he's young and isn't thinking like that yet. But he will. And now to whomever he plays for he's just another guy in their future. I hate it for KB. But this was his choice.

He could have still went in the draft..are you kidding me. The amount of scouts and nfl coaches that show up at Clemson Pro days are lacking for nothing. Someone got in his ear and messed this up for him.Wish he could've talked to cris carter

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well said Mr. Carter

Sep 28, 2018, 8:47 AM

NM. He's not John Elway. He better maximize on his college experience and education because he's not going to be a pro athlete.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Kelly Bryant never saw Rudy

Sep 28, 2018, 8:16 PM

For some reason this came to mind. Although not quite the same scenario. The part about quitting.
