Why doesn't Miami build an on-campus stadium . . .

Oct 20, 2012, 8:25 PM

that seats about 55K? That's ALL they need! If not an on-campus stadium, at least a stadium that's in the same neighborhood. They've put enough players in the pro's to gather a nice nest egg for such a project . . .

because there is no guarantee anyone will show up often enough to justify the cost.

things cost money, and for things to happen in this country, someone has to MAKE money.

few people within a driving distance of Miami could care about their football program unless they are winning.

it is the most fickle fan base in the country.

believe me, someone would have already exploited this opportunity if they would show up at their games on a consistent basis.

boards that it will never happen for two reasons.

1. There is no space in Coral Gables for such a stadium with parking.
2. The residents of Coral Gables would have a fit if they woke up to find out Miami was planning to put a stadium in that neighborhood.

And even though I think Miami has the money, the land in that area has a stiff price. But you are right, a 50-55,000 seat on-campus stadium is just what they need.

Pitt is in the same boat there. I think Pitt made a huge mistake when they demolished the classic Pitt Stadium. They should have renovated instead of demolished. Something has been built where the old Pitt Stadium was. It was right in the heart of Pitt's campus.

It will happen

Coral gables where Miami is located has very strict building/zoning requirements. It is my understanding that a stadium in coral gables will never be allowed.

Uconn stadium is 30 min from campus

Built in Hartford which is geographically more central in the state. Seats 40k, I would guess most games have around 30k 'real' attendance at its 3rd quarter peak (among the latest arriving crowds i have ever seen). Students average about 10k per week.

Not exactly a success story
