If Finebaum says the ACC has "no chance of competing", the league must be a lock for a huge pay raise and another string of national championships 'cause Paul ain't never been right about the ACC yet...

Agreed

And IMO if Notre Dame does not pursue another conference affiliation, the SEC and/or B1G will move on with some select offers including Clemson. If Clemson, FSU, MIA, UNC and/or UVA/VaT leave the ACC, Notre Dame cannot stay from a football strength of schedule. In this way, the SEC/B1G can draw ND out.

No one moves the needle . You need to add more $ than you draw . So does Clemson add more $ to the sec than it draws? No . If it did they would be moving heaven and earth right now . Notre dame does. Oregon doesn’t . There is something to be said that FSU and Miami getting the call to close Florida for the sec . And explaining into Virginia and North Carolina makes some sense . But I don’t see anything happening .

Clemson, and the ACC, can do very well without Notre Dame

Jul 13, 2022, 9:21 PM

as a full time footballer. We have enough juice at the top in football to put together some compelling, exciting, and lucrative Saturdays week in and week out. We just have to leverage that top end better, way better, than we've done since we grew past nine. Back to nine wouldn't be bad. A top 9, then recruit some tweener programs in as football affiliates for scheduling purposes to pad out the league's basketball schools in the other 9. We could treat football affiliates as tryouts for full league. Who knows. Schedule 4 of Notre Dame's annual games against the top batch, so 2x both for the ACC and NBC - prime time. That's bank, baby. Let 'em travel around and play other leagues. It only makes us look better, and we can bank on that also.

All's I'm saying is we have a lot more sizzle in the football arena than we've been allowed to showcase. We've sidelined far too much in exchange for a more equitable schedule, but the times now call for something different. We're proven on the field and in the trophy cases. We have all the tools right now to create a highly watched, highly valuable enterprise. Just got to rearrange the pieces to let them work better together, and for each other.

Go Tigers.

Re: Clemson, and the ACC, can do very well without Notre Dame

I'm saying put together a potent 'football' division within the current ACC's mix, which is essentially 8 programs of the 14, maybe add a WVa and/or Cincinnati to that, and schedule heavily within that division to create much more attractive games for the general public every week. With the other division, attract some eastern G5 programs into that mix so it's the same size as the upper division, and let them all play more games together also. Schedule a few crossover games between. For Notre Dame's annual 5 games with the ACC, make four of those against the top division and one against the lesser.

We water down our schedule and impact by having too many non-football powers in the league. At the top, we have as much firepower as the SEC or B1G. If we would let the top play each other more often and the bottom play each other more often we'd have a much more attractive football product to sell a media partner.

Finebaum is correct. If the Pac12 and Big12 more or less merge, the ACC is toast without Notre Dame. Who knows right now but if ND goes we need to find a way to go too but are we ahead of FSU, UNC and Miami? Time will tell.

IMO, we need to go to the SEC right now. If ND goes to the BI6, and they should. Look at it…ACC-$50 mil B16 $95-100 mil. I know ND has some Rich Alums, but they can’t pass up $50mil. I think we need to talk with ESPN about the GOR and they’ll get theirs anyway. Or take it to Court and Negotiate a settlement in 5 or 6 years meanwhile put $600 mil of the SEC bucks in our pocket

I'm sorry but I have to ask why TigerNet is so fixated on what this guy has to say? It does not matter what he says and no one here cares what he says. You only encourage him and promote him by wasting electrons on what he has to say about the SEC who pays his bills for some unknown reason. I'd suggest you simply take him "off air" like TV did the "streakers" running across the field many years ago.

Jul 15, 2022, 8:42 AM

Paul Finebaum will say anything to make headlines. Why we respect what he says is beyond reason.

The following is an ID for the podcast where Dabo (humbly) set Paul straight on any talk about Dabo returning to Bama. I looked for the link yesterday for a short while but I just don't have time to wade through the history of PF's podcast and find it.

I have the recording in MP3 on my HDD but have no idea if it can be posted being a MP3 file. Advise is welcome.
