Why does my neck and face get red and hot when I drink bourbon?

Am I allergic? Does it raise my blood pressure?

This doens't happen with beer or wine

you also have an enzyme, cant remember the name very long, but it cannot break down alcohol quickly, so when you drink high proof alcohol, it can turn your nose red too as its all gathering and trying to break down the alcohol.

just drink more.

faulty version of the aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) gene. ALDH2 is an enzyme in your body that helps break down a substance in alcohol called acetaldehyde. Too much acetaldehyde may cause a red face and other symptoms

I’d say allergy to tannins, but you drink wine and it’s aged in barrels. Maybe charred barrels? I don’t know. Distilled alcohol is pretty much the same right. It’s just how they treat it really. Maybe that’s how you’re body shows excitement.
