Why do so many UGA football players get arrested?

Well, in 15 of the last 17 years UGA has opened season with suspensions

Georgia suspends players unlike some schools, but I just find it unreal how frequently it happens

Here's my completely honest opinion. UGA doesn't recruit character they recruit players and stars which translates to the field and off the field as they have a sky high number of arrests every year. UGA coaches clearly don't have the correct parameters in place to keep these kids entertained through less problematic ways such as going to bars late at night at 18 years old where Stevenson shouldn't have been in anyways legally. Lastly, it's not a secret that UGA offers pretty solid handouts to recruit these stars and they aren't used to this and it gives them a sense of empowerment that leads to trouble when they realize they're still someone who has the same set of rules as everyone else. Bring these kids around bad seeds and they're much more inclined to do something dumb and get themselves in trouble whether they're good kids or not, especially when they never get in trouble for it as UGA is known to sweep these things under the rug.

I do not know about the culture of the UGA program, but, as a resident of Athens, GA, I can say that the local police are very aggressive in maintaining law and order. No, I have never personally been arrested, but I have personal knowledge of situations my sons faced at Clemson that resulted in a discussion with police would have been no doubt jail time in Athens. My two sons that attended Clemson have numerous friends who are good kids that took an unwelcome ride in an Athens Clarke County cruiser.
My personal rationale for the Athens police approach is that there are over 37,000 students at UGA, 127,000 residents of the county, and about 260 policemen (plus a small campus police department). Given the large number of students and the small police force, "sure, certain" punishment is intended to keep everyone in line.
Of course, it could be a combination of bad culture at UGA and the aggressive policing.

It's nothing new, that is why Spurrier always said he loved playing UGA at the first of the season. It was bc players was most likely still on game suspension or in jail, and easy to beat!!!

well when you have your hand out before you even arrive i imagine you kinda feel entitled. what you have is a culture of "me"

If they think the a kid can play and help them win games, that's all that matters. Character and integrity aren't even remote considerations at UGa.
