Who would our OC be if Elliott was no longer here? Was just

Nov 29, 2020, 10:36 PM

talking to a buddy and the question came up. Neither of us had a clue. I assume someone is being groomed, or maybe Dabo already has someone in mind? Just curious if anybody had any thoughts on the subject. I feel like we've kinda been spoiled for a while... I know I took great comfort in the fact that we basically had two, Scott & Elliott, and would probably be fine if one left. But now it's just Elliott, and if/when he leaves... ???

Zero doubt next OC will be Brandon Streeter. It’s inevitable.

a lot of sense. I knew he was QB coach, but didn't know he was Passing Game Coordinator, and really didn't realize he'd been on the staff that long. He's not as young as I thought, either... showing my age, I guess. LOL

Yep it does, but I think there is a lot of us that has already slipped around to the dark side of the moo, moon LOL!!! ;)

That's who I think it will be also. He is over the QB's, and nobody knows better than him what they are capable of doing, and he has to know every play frontwards and backwards to coach them to play the way that they do from our play book!!!!

Hope he throws the WR screen out the door.

I hope he rips out the entire page with that run play straight into the teeth/the strength of our opponents defense!!!

If the OL gets any worse the WR screen might be the only viable play to call.

Streeter

Nov 29, 2020, 11:59 PM

Kid was d@mn tough and a really smart QB on some bad Clemson teams.

Kyle Richardson

Nov 30, 2020, 12:18 AM

Offensive Analyst Kyle Richardson would get a look. But, maybe Streeter because of his familiarity with what we run now! A good OC is more than just knowing the offense though. It's when you call that slip screen or that 7-route or place emphasis on getting it to the 9 man in certain parts of the game. Based on defensive look at how they are playing you.
Who helps Coach Elliott with game planning an opponent? Coach Elliott and Coach Scott were the ones who helped Coach Morris! If you are in the room and know the plan of attack; "which gets discussed as a group", then depending on down and distance/score/defensive alignment you run "X play" or "y play"! As discussed in numerous conversations that week! The people in the week putting that together will be your first choice!

Not for anyone in particular - but the play calling is heard on the headset! If it's a bad call it can be over-ridden at any point! Over the years they have discussed the "lack of egos" and not being "behind hurt" if someone says you are falling into a pattern. People are literally informed to "tell me/him when he's/OC is getting too predictable"! They do it as a staff in other words! So, some of the complaints about Coach Elliott "specifically" I don't get! If you said, "offensive staff" I would understand!

1 an analyst would never be elevated above a current coach.

2. Streeter is incredibly qualified.

3. Calling plays during a game is NOT done by committee.

You only get on here then if you don't think others have a voice in the play calling. From Coaches interviews over the years and this year "the Staff have all at different times said that"! In other words, "I didn't pull that from thin air"!

2nd. I never said Streeter wasn't qualified. Why mention that? Of course he is qualified; that is why he is a part of the best staff in the country "per their peers"!

3rd. you might be right or Kyle Richardson much like Scott and Elliott was told - "learn up as much knowledge as you can because one day you will be filling much bigger shoes"! And guess what, Dabo on many facets of how it is supposed to be done - goes against the grain!

I am just a person on a message board! But, I know the reputation K. Richardson has not just in this region, but around the country as an offensive mind! Justin Worley, Mason Rudolph both FBS starting QB's who set National records under his tutelage. Coaches from across the country would come to Rock Hill, SC to get ideas from him! National Championship winning coach Gus Malzahn was a former H.S. wiz too for a quick reference. The CU basic offense was sculpted by a former Malzahn and B. Bentley friend Chad Morris! Wouldn't place money on it; but It would not surprise me!

Dabo Swinney is very engaged in the Offense

Nov 30, 2020, 12:46 AM

He plans; he calls plays; he breaks down film; he instructs Elliott. DS will determine if Streeter is ready. As long as BV is on the staff, Coach Swinney can support and facilitate BV's efforts -- a great position for a busy and hard working HC to be in.

I would still love to see Coach Swinney hire a high quality full-time Special Teams coach.

A ST coach wouldn't hurt anything that's for sure! Someone who basically only does that would be a good look; but bad for the wallet of the other coaches.
Remember Dabo famously taking a pay cut to help keep BV and the staff happy? Sacrifices have to be made and will everyone be willing?

Maybe!

I agree that we need someone that could bring our special teams up to championship form. But I would much rather have an OC that when he put his foot on an opponents throat, he will shift all his weight on that foot and keep it there!!!!!

Hows about the o coordinator at coastal, they seem to be doing well on that side of the ball and that dude has some familiarity with the program.

As one who doesn’t follow anyone other than Clemson closely

Nov 30, 2020, 7:48 AM

had to look up your mystery guy. Korn, eh? Based on Dabo’s ‘loyalty’ history, I would think he might bring him on staff ( OC Staff/recruiting, etc.); but do not think Dabo would bring him on staff ‘ahead of/above’ Streeter.

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

IMO OC Elliott is a brilliant play-caller & coach. Streeter_

Nov 30, 2020, 7:36 AM

Dabo has a plan and very likely it would be an internal candidate.

Brandon Streeter has experience calling plays

Nov 30, 2020, 11:58 AM

He called plays on the FCS level, which is more experience than SCott/Elliott when they became Co OC’s.

Re: Who would our OC be if Elliott was no longer here? Was just

Nov 30, 2020, 12:10 PM

My opinion is this, If Tony left, I'm going to assume that Streeter would be our OC. He has been in coaching plenty long enough to be given a chance as the OC. He has been with Jeff, Tony, and Dabo long enough to have thought a lot about what he would if he was OC, plus he has been OC at a past job at Liberty for two years, and he was the OC at Richmond for two years, at Clemson since 2014 as QB coach, plus Dabo hung the PGQ tile on him right after Jeff left.

Streeter has been coaching QB's at Clemson since 2014, he has worked alongside some good coaches since coming back to Clemson. If Tony was to take a job somewhere, I think it would be at a risk if Dabo was to go outside of the program that he has built to bring in an OC. I think that it could put a crack in the continuity that has been with this coaching staff since BV came to Clemson, and Dabo giving the high paying jobs to his staff within.

Now if he gave Streeter the job, and he failed miserably, then I think that it would be advised that Dabo go outside the Clemson program for an accomplished OC, and give Streeter the opportunity to go back to coaching QB's. But even if Dabo was to go outside to find an OC, I think they would have had connections to Clemson in the past. I don't know for sure, but, could it ever be possible for Billy Napier to come back as an OC???

Yeah, somebody mentioned Streeter's toughness... I remember

Nov 30, 2020, 4:07 PM

a game against Va Tech in which he was blitzed and blindsided so many times, I was amazed he kept getting back up. Back when killer shots to the QB were allowed. I told a Hokie friend of mine that Streeter would need surgery to remove Corey Moore's facemask from his ribcage.....
