Who will be our starting LBs this year?

Jun 24, 2014, 8:37 AM

Anthony is a lock at the MIKE position and I think BJ Goodson will back him up. Goodson loves to lay a hit and would have played a lot more last year if he hadn't gotten that concussion in the UGA game, which he got by knocking their fullback's helmet off btw.

I really want Steward to succeed and think he'll make some noise but Kellen Jones and Ben Boulware are studs that will push him very very hard at the WILL position. Due ot injury I say Steward keeps the spot right now with Boulware hot on his heels.

SAM I'm not sure about. Dorian O'Daniel is a perfect fit but is also a RS freshmen. Burrell will probably get the first nod when we need a LB but I think O'Daniel's talent shines through sooner rather then later. Wiggins and Blanks also factor in but again due to injury I think Wiggins gets the nod over Blanks when we need a 5th DB.

I'd love to get that one stellar year out of Steward

Terrific talent, bad luck.

Its kind of hard to believe but I think Blanks may be left out...it sucks bc he is very talented but this is where you see how far we have come in recruiting...when you have guys like that and DBs that have played a couple years missing playing time because of younger guys, I think is a good sign (Peters, Jenkins)...these guys will need to play better to keep their spots later in the season I believe

If Steward stays healthy, he will keep his spot and Boulware will take it over in 2015.

Blanks will not be left out. I guarantee it.

O'Daniel Needs Another Year in the Weight Room...

Jun 24, 2014, 9:26 AM

he will get rolled by the Gurley and Mike Davis types, and he's not ready to take on lead blockers, either. I understand that the SAM spot isn't your run stopper and is usually a smaller LB/ATH.... but Quandon Christian at least had a good 220 lbs to help when needed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemsontigers.com lists O'Daniel at 210

Jun 24, 2014, 12:38 PM

I agree that's a little bit too small, especially considering Christian was listed at 230. However, Burrell's only listed at 215, Blanks is listed at 200 (he'll probably be more in the 210- 215 range this year), and Wiggins is listed at 190. Since Burrell is only 5'11, O'Daniel may end up being he biggest option at that position.

Re: Clemsontigers.com lists O'Daniel at 210

Jun 24, 2014, 6:21 PM

I don't buy that O'Daniel is 210. He is a small guy. He's muscular and strong, but just naturally has a small frame. Blanks is hoping to be at 220 by camp.

Anthony and Steward are pretty much locks. I think SAM will

Jun 24, 2014, 9:32 AM

be a combo of Wiggins/Blanks/Burrell depending on the package. Majority of the teams are spread anyway, so the quicker SAM is generally needed.

Whoever Starts At The Linebacker Spots ----

seems to still be a lot of questions behind that dline. Mr Gurley is a bad man.

Hey is Cole Stoudt making his first start? Just trying to ascertain before August. Thanks.

LB is actually a strength of the team this year

Jun 24, 2014, 12:34 PM [ in reply to Re: Whoever Starts At The Linebacker Spots ---- ]

Not a lot of questions there, to be honest. The WILL spot is being taken over by a guy with a ton of talent and experience, and he's followed by another talented guy who played a lot last year. SAM is the biggest question mark, but I don't think anybody's worried about it because Blanks and Burrell have so much good experience.

Re: Who will be our starting LBs this year?

I think something is going on with Blanks. I'm wondering if he's a "secret" right now? I saw a pic of him, Martin Jenkins and a trainer getting ready to run the ### at CU and Blanks looked thicker. I think he's moving to LB permanently. I may be wrong, regardless he's too good to not be on the field.

for the Ga game

Jun 24, 2014, 11:14 AM

We need LBs rep can hit hard. Id Anthony at Mike, Goodsen at SAM and Steward at Will. A rb who gets knocked in his mouth a couple of times usually runs scared for the rest of the game and that's exactly what I think the LBs I just mentioned would do to Gurley and Marshall. Just my opinion

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Goodson won't be playing SAM this year

Jun 24, 2014, 12:31 PM

Way too much coverage responsibility. I guess he could play there if we were sure they weren't going to pass.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think there's a pretty set rotation already

Jun 24, 2014, 12:30 PM

MIKE
1. Anthony
2. Goodson
3. Jones/ Boulware

WILL
1. Steward
2. Boulware
3. Possibly Rogers, if no RS

SAM
1. Blanks/ Burrell
2. O'Daniel
3. Possibly Rogers

I see Wiggins doing a little more substitution work at safety.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I really like Wiggins and think he'll start somewhere***
