Hope Tony stays with us Why would

Dec 7, 2021, 3:48 PM

anyone want to go to Duke and have more fans in the stands for BB than football

Let Tony go ahead and go. If he doesn't go soon, his stock may drop. We can find a much better OC.

Dec 7, 2021, 4:09 PM

I tend to agree, but is Streeter any better?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It wouldnt be Streeter.***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would hope not, but I'm not sure it wouldn't be.***

Dec 7, 2021, 4:31 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Streeter was very successful as an OC at Richmond

Dec 7, 2021, 4:36 PM

Why would you be against him?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

who do you think our "options" are for OC?

Dec 7, 2021, 4:45 PM

I'm sure there are a lot of options better than a former Richmond OC

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't have a list

Dec 7, 2021, 4:52 PM

I'm just curious what evidence you have to say Street isn't capable?

Who are all your P5 candidates, since FCS isn't good enough?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

what evidence do you have that he is capable?

Dec 7, 2021, 4:54 PM

just b/c he was an OC at Richmond?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL. He had 3 strong years at Richmond against equal or

Dec 7, 2021, 5:00 PM

better competition. That IS evidence. I don't know if he's the answer or not, but at least I have some facts whereas you have none.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

3 "strong years" at richmond warrants a pass to be the OC...

Dec 7, 2021, 5:07 PM

at currently a top 5 PROGRAM in the country (not team this year, PROGRAM)??????????

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So you have no facts at all? Noted.

Dec 7, 2021, 5:17 PM

Again, I don't know if Street is the next coming of Mike Leech or not, but at least I have some evidence to show he knows what he's doing. Again, I'm not pining for Streeter to take the OC job should Tony choose to leave, but your baseless tossing him aside is completely unwarranted.

Dec 7, 2021, 5:03 PM [ in reply to I don't have a list ]

I saw no evidence of any offensive coaching or player development this year. What exactly did you see from the QB, WR or O-Line that you’d want to see again next year? One dimensional (run only) doesn’t work.

2024 white level membermilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh I don't know about that.

Dec 7, 2021, 5:14 PM

For one, you're talking about in anomaly season versus 6 years of UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS.

In this one anomaly season, we've had a QB barely able to function, and we've had an unreal amount of injuries in the OL and WR groups.

We've had to play guys on the OL who weren't normally going to see much playing time this year, and for most of the year we've seen WRs like Justyn Ross, Joe Ngata, Frank Ladson, Brannon Spector, and Will Taylor out for games or the season. That's a significant list of talent.

We've seen strong improvement on the OL once we played a couple games with the same lineup, and the young RBs (2 Fr and 1 Soph) have developed into a strength on the team.

We were 4-3 with it looking like we could lose several more, and we've been able to push the crippled offense to 9 wins with a chance at 10.. through adjustments and improvising.

Considering all the factors, especially the struggles at the key position on the field, somehow we're on the cusp of winning 10 games and finishing inn the top 15. Kudos to the offensive staff for finding a way.

Dec 7, 2021, 4:27 PM [ in reply to Re: Hope Tony stays with us Why would ]

historically unprecedented run in Clemson history? Of course!

Over the previous 6 years, Clemson has been one of the top 2 programs in America. Our offense has been phenomenal during the run, and the accomplishments are unlike anything we've ever experienced.

We've been the 4th, 4th, and 3rd in scoring offense in the last 3 years, and we finished with #1, #2, and #4 CFP rankings as well... largely on the strength of a great offense and scheme. Having great players is only part of the equation - obviously coaching them and putting them in position to be successful relies on the coaching. There are numerous programs out there with more talent and depth, but there are none (other than Bama) who have accomplished as much. What the heck else do you want?

Since 2015, I can't think of a single OC who has done more at a single school, and certainly there isn't an OC with more trophies and rings.

Who are all these "much better" OCs, and why aren't they winning rings and trophies?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Hasn't our offense been a primary contributor to the

Dec 7, 2021, 4:42 PM

ignore what we do vs the ACC, they're awful. We're better than that and our bar of comparison is and should be how we do vs CFP competition.............we do that and the ACC takes care of itself.

the cracks in offensive foundation started showing in 2019

in the last 3 CFP games we've scored 29, 25, & 28 That's with TL & Travis in the backfield.

the CFP title winners have scored: 42, 45, 35, 26, 44, 42, 52

the lack of innovation from the offense has been slipping the last 3 years............it all came to a head this year vs UGA............when we were still healthy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We have more playoff wins than everyone (except Bama)

Dec 7, 2021, 4:58 PM

We won when we scored 29, against a great defense, largely because of creativity and great adjustments. We didn't lose to LSU or Ohio State because of a lack of offense. We lost because we gave up 1,300 yards and 13 TDs in those two games. Again, how can anyone look at Clemson over the last 6 years and say the offense wasn't great??

The Georgia game had nothing to do with playcalling as is the case this entire year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that's wrong......

Dec 7, 2021, 5:04 PM

it's an OFFENSIVE ERA of college football........you have to be able to score 35-40+ on CFP competition to win national titles. That LSU team who was arguably the best offensive team in the history of college football destroyed a really good (not our best) BRENT VENABLES defense, and our defense hung in there as long as they could b/c our offense COULD NOT MOVE THE CHAINS.............on the flip side our offense who scored points all year on crappy opponents in the ACC couldn't break 30 on a 30-40th scoring defense in LSU.................same with Ohio State LAST YEAR.

That Georgia defense was propped up just like our offense was in 2019...........they held inept offenses down in the SEC East all year and caught us on a "down year"........then BAMA HAPPENED. Really the only offenses UGA played all year was Tennessee (who doesn't have the players) and Bama.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: that's wrong......

Dec 7, 2021, 5:08 PM

Also with you pointing out the LSU defensive stats from that year you're ignoring all the guys they got back from injury late in the season on defense. Look at their last several games including the playoff game against Oklahoma to see how much better their defense was playing compared to earlier in the year.

Re: Hasn't our offense been a primary contributor to the

Dec 7, 2021, 5:06 PM [ in reply to Re: Hasn't our offense been a primary contributor to the ]

So in 2019 when we held Ohio State to 23 points did their offensive coaches forget how to coach in that game and somehow learned how to coach by the time they played us the following year? Or is it possible they faced a really great defense that was playing at a high level that night?

During that same year when we only scored 25 against LSU, did the Oklahoma coaches also forget how to coach offense since they scored only 28 points the week before against the same LSU team with 14 of those points coming after the game was pretty much over?

Did Alabama forget how to coach offense the year before when we held them to 16 points? Did our offensive coaches figure out how to coach against an elite team during that same game when we put up 44 points against Bama?

Or how about our offense in 2016 when we scored 35 against Bama or in 2015 when we scored 40 against Bama?

How about the 37 we scored against Oklahoma in 2015? Did the Oklahoma offensive coaches forget how to coach in that same game when they only scored 17 against us?

Heck, even this season against Georgia. Do the Georgia coaches not know how to coach offensive since they only managed to score 3 points against us on offense? Or is it that somehow offensives do often struggle to put out the same sort of production against elite defenses?

This expectation that over a period of several years we should've never had any games where our offensive doesn't dominate is silly. BV was highly regarded as being the best DC in the country during his time here(as he should) and I could just as easily point out a number of games where we either lost due to giving up a ton of points, or where our offense had to put up a ton of points to save us.

Re: Hasn't our offense been a primary contributor to the

Dec 7, 2021, 4:55 PM [ in reply to Hasn't our offense been a primary contributor to the ]

According to some of our fans you've missed the part where we won most of those games in defensive battles, and the games we did score a lot of points in were because we're the only program in the country to have talented players on offense which allowed us to score points despite our offensive coaches not having a clue how to coach and call plays.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly.***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well... one advantage to Duke is that football expectations

Dec 7, 2021, 4:22 PM

are "reasonable" compared to most places. Duke has only had 10 winning seasons in the last 40 years. There won't be this pressure to immediately compete for a championship at Duke. Heck if Elliott can get them to just have a couple of 6+ win seasons it would be considered a victory.

and run his own program, rather than be a coordinator?

He will also make more money in that role than he does now.

He would be a fool not to take the job if offered.
