which was a bigger clock debacle: '07 vs. duke or '14 vs pit

Mar 10, 2014, 11:09 AM

imo, it was 2007. that was clear 'human' error. it was as if duke controlled the clock in cameron as to favor the dukies.

saturday was a judgment call. and i honestly believe the call was too close to tell even in slo mo replay and the refs decided to allow the basket since it didnt technically cost either team the game (even though we know our spirits were crushed and we were doomed in OT) and allowed a tie.

whats your opinion?

My opinion is we should've been able to inbounds the ball

Mar 10, 2014, 11:14 AM

The clock shouldn't have mattered that much with a 5 point lead and four seconds to go in the game.

^^^.

i bet we inbound that ball successfully 5 out of 10 times.

bounds pass. 1) ball in hand 2) back board light lit 3) clock read 0:00 4) we were up 2 we won. Just because questionable refs from a less than honest ACC decided that he made the shot even though they could not cite any credible evidence.

If you run a smarter inbounds play...

Mar 10, 2014, 11:22 AM

you don't put yourself in a position of getting ****** by the officials.

Don't think the play was as much of a problem as execution

Mar 10, 2014, 11:55 AM

Just a crappy pass that our guy couldn't handle, and it somehow went straight into the Pitt player's hands with enough time to hit a jumper.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was a combination of the two.

Mar 10, 2014, 12:02 PM

A poorly designed play combined with poor execution.

you don't give a 3rd party the chance to screw you...

period.

you don't want someone else involved, then you d@mn well better handle your business.

clemson screwed the pooch.

this team better stand up & take responsibility for the loss or they will find the door quickly in the acct.

excuses are for losers, fans & poorly coached teams. i don't think clemson is poorly coached.

i hope that inbounds play has a lasting impression on cu basketball[all sports] as well.

there is positive to be taken from it if only for a great teaching moment.

The refs screwing over the team isn't a F--king EXCUSE, Its a F--King FACT. You have eyes that saw it and witnessed it happen. To many people on here have a desperate need to point its his fault finger.

5 point lead, 4 seconds left

Mar 10, 2014, 12:19 PM

those ####### refs made clemson choke.

i hope brownell isn't using that excuse with his team. they have business left while people like you cry an effing river over something completely avoidable.

Mar 10, 2014, 11:56 AM [ in reply to My opinion is we should've been able to inbounds the ball ]

Although Clemson committed numerous turnovers during the game, they had, up until that point, successfully inbounded the ball 100% of the time. Bad execution caused that turnover but a very bad call by the officials cost the game.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yep, we shouldn't call into account the missed free throws

Mar 10, 2014, 12:08 PM

that would have iced the game either.

clemson didn't get the job done. clemson turned it over. clemson with the ball, the clock & game all in their favor, failed...

miserably.

Re: which was a bigger clock debacle: '07 vs. duke or '14 vs pit

Mar 10, 2014, 11:21 AM

I thought the three point basket they made just prior to the inbound play was the play that cost us the game. We lost defensive containment on that play---not like us in that situation!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

07 Duke for sure

Mar 10, 2014, 11:26 AM

You can make a good argument that the call in the Pitt game was right, based on the clocks not matching. There is no way in this world any justification could ever be given for what happened at Duke. What made that especially egregious was the fact they had the benefit of replay and STILL screwed us royally.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The rules screwed us

Mar 10, 2014, 11:40 AM

The clock operator actually (potentially) was doing us a favor by not starting the clock on the inbounds pass (extending the game), and then letting it run after we hit the shot was also in our favor.

The refs did what they are tasked to do in correcting the time ONLY after the shot went through. THey fixed the one error they could and we got boned by the rules not allowing them to look at the WHOLE play.
