Which gallon size of air compressors

Sep 7, 2021, 3:49 PM

are good for “most jobs”. Just like blowing up car tires, boat tires, floats, maybe a drill to rotate tires….just easy stuff.

I do not have the room for a rolling one or a whole tank, plus I don’t need it that much.

Um, excuse me...

But we're all pretending to be offensive coordinator geniuses today. Get with the program.

That’s pretty funny actually, since

get a larger one than you think

Sep 7, 2021, 3:58 PM

You need. They all say they run more than they do.

Don’t think I want a cheap Ryobi or other brand inflator/deflator

The first few things you mentioned could use a portable

Sep 7, 2021, 3:59 PM

Pancake style compressor. I think you’re talking about impact wrenches at the end. They use too much air for a portable. I would advice getting a nice cordless impact wrench though. I have an industrial compressor and shop air, and I haven’t touched my air gun since I bought this.

Is Makita better than Milwaukee?

Sep 7, 2021, 4:12 PM

Follow-up questions: Is it pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" and is that Algonquin for "the good land"?

TIA

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very very close in quality.

Sep 7, 2021, 5:21 PM

Both are excellent. Big steps above the Dewalt and Ryobi stuff. Milwaukee has a little more street cred with the NASCAR crowd with $10k snap-on toolboxes.

I liked that makita had a big selection of yard tools that Milwaukee doesn’t have, but then Milwaukee has some nice specialty tools geared towards the shop trades that Makita doesn’t have.

No storage.

Been about 7 years, but feel like it may be dying soon.

You dial it in to the nearest 0.5 lb and hit go.

Pancake will do most jobs...

Sep 7, 2021, 4:04 PM

For tires, get an electric (battery) impact. I use a DeWalt. Never had any trouble with my F-150 lugs and they are set to 150 ft-lbs.

I got a 5 gallon

Sep 7, 2021, 4:06 PM

ran a nail gun with it to build a shed. ran a pneumatic demo hammer to rip up floors. it should work plenty for you for what you mentioned.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure what size, but I got one from walmart for like $80

Sep 7, 2021, 4:25 PM

probably 15 years ago that does the job quite well for me. Only really use it to inflate tires, did run a nail gun off of it one time.

Now, I'm ALWAYS plugged in when using it and that works fine for me. If you need portability with no access to power, that's where I'd start worring about air capacity more.
