Where are we as a program...Leggett vs. Lee comparison...

Jun 1, 2022, 2:10 PM

how does the end of the Leggett era compare to the end of the Lee era?

Not making a regional (2) years in a row has me thinking we may have been in better shape at the end of Leggett's reign.

We were in better shape. Leggett had only 1 year left on his contract. He had his best class in years lined up and was set to open the new facility. There was no reason to fire him in that moment. Scar was already fading. It’s hard to imagine that Leggett wouldn’t have been able to turn the corner with Beer, Okey, and at least two draft picks that backed out when he was fired. And if it didn’t work, his contract quietly ends and there isn’t the acrimony from his coaching tree. Instead we wasted 7 years on a bad coach.

Yeah, for some reason some folks felt that it was the "same story", "no progression", and "fan interest" had dropped off. No Conference Champ in nearly 10 years.

If you plot his wins over time, might make you avatar not look quite so bad.

I think it would have been better just to no renew, but sometimes that does not work either as you would have had a potential year with a coach not recruiting. I think it would have been better for Jack to pick his exit. He earned that to a point... but personality and the AD might not have worked

No Omaha since 2010 tells you all you need to know about both coaches.

There is actually no real comparison. The Tiger baseball program was in a much better place in 2015 and it is not even close.

Similar place to be fair. I think Lee was headed

The right direction but just couldn't get it done in conference. The offense was good but the pitching really let us down this year. Perhaps a new pitching coach would have been a better move but good as an enemy of great. Lee was not great and Jack Legg certainly was not either at the end of his career. The ACC is also much stronger now than it was during the JackLeg era. Ultimately that's why we lost his job. Anyone who says we were in a better place with Jack Legg simply doesn't remember how awful those teams were at fundamentals his last few years. Barely .500 his last year. We made the tournament on reputation only.

You cannot say the offense was good when they had the most strikeouts in program history. Even a slight amount of plate discipline and we might have been in a much different situation - and that’s entirely on the coach.
