getting shot - and no Purple Hearts are awarded. I have one lurking somewhere at the moment and I hope it passes soon. Yesterday it was lodged in the ureter causing immense pain and an ER visit. After some medication, it must have moved into my bladder eliminating the blockage and pain - even tried fishing a little this morning but waiting to see if more problems start when it begins its exit.

Fortunately medical science in this country is amazing. I just had my gall bladder removed because of stones and it went extremely well. Just tough it out and you will survive this I know! Easy for me to say. Right????

If you had your gall bladder removed because of kidney stones, you should consider changing doctors!

Let's review! Clover posted about kidney stones and how bad they hurt and you responded that you had your gall bladder removed because of stones....... didn't mention which kind. I assumed you meant gallstones, but you do not necessarily have to have your gall bladder removed just because you have stone. For the record, I have had kidney stones, gall bladder stones, and my gall bladder removed when the stones acted up, but had they 20 years before giving me any trouble.
Guess I should have inserted a wink in my last post ..... just kidding with you!

They are painful as ####! A Clemson head coach came into ICU when I worked there. He was in agony. Eventually it passed but not before he was brought to his knees in pain.

fraternity brother who had kidney stones. He went over to Redfern Infirmary and Doc Vaughn told him to go to the ESSO Club and buy a case of beer and start drinking and if he didn't pass it by morning to come back. Needless to say at about can 20 the stone passed, however the pain has passed long before.
I can see now days a medical doctor at a college prescribing an elixir like that to a student, however it was great advise.

Once a kidney stone falls into your bladder, not much pain until it comes through your tool, and that is really uncomfortable, especial if it gets stuck, and you have to wait until the next time you have to pee. You will funnel fluids if that happens!!!
The stone that the urologist had to break up, he said that it was the biggest kidney stone that he had ever seen, and he had been a urologist for 25 years at that time, about 4 years ago!!!

I can sympathize with you. I've had two episodes. My doctor said I could compare the pain to a woman's pain during child birth. I was surprised how small the kidney stone was because it felt like a 12 pound sandspur was in my body.

I went from feeling fine 0 pain to doubled over and pain surging from 6 to 10 (Almost Passing Out and The Room Spinning) for about 45 minutes until the ER hit me with Morphine. 2 Days of level 4-6 pain and pissing in a mesh screen I caught the little bugger. About as big as number 7 shot and all scratchy. Never want to experience that again.

I've been shot in the chest through the lung with a 22 magnum hollow point, and I have had many kidney stones, and being shot didn't hurt as bad as a few of the kidney stones that I've passed, or the one that had to be removed. I had a Gallstone attack also, and that hurt worse than being shot, and any of the kidney stones. The Gallstone attack was the worst pain I've ever had, much worse!!!

For me the worst part about being shot, was the rib that the bullet broke in half. I couldn't get up or down without help bc it hurt so bad. And yes, I'm lucky to be alive bc, the Dr said the it missed heart about an inch. A drunk woman shot me bc I was about to kick her husbands butt in a bar bc he called my wife a F-ing Biotch. When I knocked him off his stool, his wife pulled the trigger, and I had no idea she had a 22 magnum derringer in her hand during the argument!!!!

I’ve never had kidney stones but the gallstones were a pain I never care to endure again. After thinking I was dieing and violently throwing up for approximately 5 minutes standing on the side of interstate 85. I made it to the hospital with busted blood vessels in both eyes. After two shots of morphine the world calmed down. The dr told me we could take out the gallbladder or wait until it happens again. He didn’t have to ask but once and I was all for it.

From what I've been told, the pain is similar to what a woman goes through during childbirth. Not fun! Good luck, Clover!

About Those kidney Stones
Mar 27, 2021, 2:06 PM
|
|
My first attack occurred many years abo while on a business trip to the lower part of the state. That night I went to a doctor there who asked me if I had ever had a kidney stone. I told him "no" and a urine sample showed some blood. He gave me a pain killer and suggested I go home the next morning and check with my regular doctor. The next morning I felt normal and decided to continue my stay in a nearby area. Soon after dinner I had another attack. The lady at the motel made several calls to locate a doctor who was available. On my way to the doctors office the pain ceased. When I arrived at the doctor's office I told him I was in severe pain when the lady at the motel called but now I felt fine. He told me that proved I was not a drug addict. He told me that drug addicts will often fake a kidney stone attack just to get a strong drug. He gave me a pain killer should the pain return during the night and I made up my mind to head back to Clemson the next morning.

Have had two episodes, the first at 18 in 1965 and one five years ago. Spent two nights in the hospital with the first at old G'ville General. For the second, was unfortunately not eligible for lithotripsy due to recent consumption of one of the many prohibited meds. So the doc added me to his late evening surgery list and spent a night in the hospital. Can't imagine many other things that have as much pain but no doubt there are several. Know a person who gets stones about on an annual basis. A number of diet changes and other treatment options haven't produced sufficient results.

Mine was 12MM and they had to blast it with lithotripsy ..... basically turning one large one into a thousand little one (a few almost the size of a BB). The doctor said I would pass the fragments for about 6 weeks, but I thought that was way too long, but he turned out to be right. Passing the fragment, even the large ones caused a little discomfort, but not terribly bad like passing a sand spur (which is what they look like).

years old. That was 51 years ago, and it STILL hurts every time I think about it. Back then, I described the pain as "sitting real close to a blast furnace, but insulated, and then suddenly someone opens a small door and it burns your guts out instantaneously. When that thing started moving, it took about 15 minutes to make it from one side to the next, evidently. It would make me execute the worlds fastest flip over, to try and gain another 15 minutes before it landed again.
It felt like a giant barbed cockleburr, but when it finally plinked in the toilet, AFTER ABOUT THREE MORE DAYS OF MISERY, it was only about the size of maybe 3 grains of sand stuck together. It just doesn't seem right that something that small could hurt so dayum bad.
I don't know why I got that one, or why I have never gotten another one, but I am extremely thankful to not have had another.

If it's in your bladder, the hard part is probably over. It happens, but it is not common to have significant difficulty passing the stone from the bladder into and out of the urethra. Good luck Clover!!

Be glad. Had a kidney stone and it hurt but not half as much as the pain I had from lower back nerve stenosuos(sp). Had to have my wife take me to the ER twice in one week to get shots just so I could go to sleep. Say what you will about Ocicotin(sp), but it was effective. Had a back operation and have not had that pain again. That pain was constant and did not change with movement. I could work until the pain became too much. Had this operation three years ago and it worked wonders.

coming back from a XC meet in New York. I certain I passed one there, along with one in our office bathrooms at JMU just before we left for that trip.
Outside medication, the thing that helped the most was easily Vodka & Cranberry. Made peeing a whole lot easier!
The head coach, his oldest son and wife all got Kidney Stones within 6-12 months of moving to the Shenandoah Valley (from western NC). His wife gave birth with no meds (twice) and said Kidney stones were easily more painful than childbirth.
I'll say the only thing worst that kidney stones, for me, was a terrible dry socket that was super infected that I didn't get treated for 8 days. Also, a recent cracked/Abscessed tooth put me in the hurt tank. With both of these issues, the pain got so bad I puked multiple times before getting them addressed.

Since we're sharing,, I've got one in left kidney that's about 15mm. It hasn't changed size in last 6 months or tried to move. Dr will go in after it eventually. He won't do the break up thing over 12mm, said he'd end up going in anyway because can't guarantee pieces will be small enough.
