When I was a kid I had real friends and didn’t mind the heat

Jul 29, 2022, 5:26 PM

Now I can hardly tolerate real people or the heat so I stay inside and talk to faceless tnet handles that could be programmed bots for all i know.

11 years ago, age 59, I walked 100 holes of golf. Started before sunrise. Ended at 3:30. Temp was 90+ when I ended. No way would I try to do that today.

You think the heat is bad on you now. Just wait. Every year it gets worse.

I'll bet all 100 holes were uphill?

Why exactly would someone want to swing a golf club

Jul 29, 2022, 5:39 PM [ in reply to Re: When I was a kid I had real friends and didn’t mind the heat ]

450+ times in one day ? Did you lose a bet or something…..that seems idiotic.

I was raising money for the athletic department at the school I volunteer coached. I'd heard about golfers become "Hundred Hole Hikers" and decided I'd kill two birds with one stone. Worked through the school to get the word out to their donors. Raised just over $100K.

Actually 470 strokes. I was 86 over for the 100 holes, and was a 12 handicapper at the time.

You think that was tough, 104 years ago, I woke up before I went to bed and walked 1000 holes with an oven on my head set to 450 degrees in 105 degree weather but then I remembered I didn't have my clubs so I walked 1000 miles back from Clemson to Miami where it was 138 degrees and forged new clubs if a fiery furnace while wrapped in a goose-down coat. Oh those were the days... I sure do miss that coat.

first was white with brown and black spots. I named him Spotty. The second was nearly all black. I named him Blackie.

I really didn't have a lot of imagination when it came to naming dogs, as a kid.

But since I have been on Tigernet, I could come up with some doozies now, I bet. Baron Von Snickerdoodle, or something like that. Good thing I don't have pets anymore.

:)

didn't know you are 70! You read light 55. LOL~

Really enjoy your reasoning, non-inflammable comments, fairness, good news stories, being pro Clemson, etc. Of course I remember that you may have a relative at Clemson ( grand child?) which helps.

Re: bretfsu..

Nope. No relative at Clemson. The summer of 1992, I spent 2 months at Clemson taking a couple of Special Topics graduate math courses learning how to use a graphing calculator in teaching math classes at college. (Pre-calculus and calculus.) Did a lot of comparing and contrasting HP and TI calculators.

When I was in grad school at Valdosta State, I had a prof who got his Ph.D. in math from Clemson. He got me a GA to go to Clemson and work on my Ph.D. I got engaged and chose to get married rather than go to school. (She had a great job in Florida. My mom was her secretary - which is another great story about how we met.)

We've been married 47 years, 5 months and 8 days as I type this. I made the right decision.

It was so hot on the farm today, must have went through a 12 pack of 20oz waters today, took 3 trips to pick up hay today and delivered around the farm & in storage, stacked skids of shavings and got a grain delivery. If the prices don’t heat you up enough the heat will, horses I’ve never seen just sweat when standing in the shade have had to be hosed down 3-4 times a day during the last week.

Hopefully we get some relief soon, pretty bad when Miami is cooler than North Carolina. Honestly, I like the heat better than the really cold weather but the cold sounds really nice right now…lol

We are going to White Pines, TN taking 6 show horses next week so hopefully we get some relief ? there.

Ease up on the F-350 lol I have 2 F-250’s but the options are slim when pulling horses up mountains. They would have a hard time out west with real mountains where you climb for 25-40 miles.
